The Kitchen

So this was after I took out the metal cabinetry and huge cast iron farm sink that I could have made work if I had the time/patience. These are Home Depot Maple Shaker-style Cheapo cabinets. That is the famous green concrete countertop that I poured & stained myself! I put that backsplash in, but I didn't poly it right. You will see what a mistake that was very soon! Please note the squalor. This was, in fact, how I used to live.

This is the same area with the cabinets removed. The framing & trim takes up my entire apartment. If you look to the far left side of the picture, you can see the 16' lengths of crown running right into my bedroom. Working in these tight & trippy conditions makes guys super cranky.

This is my kitchen with the FIRST color of paint on the walls & backsplash. I (and I should know better) changed EVERY SINGLE paint color AT LEAST ONCE. Punch list on the microwave. NEW STOVE!

OK, so this is as close to finished as I have for this angle, but you get the idea. "Pistachio" limestone countertop - all those little things on it are fossils! Sink donated by stonecutter. Oil rubbed bronze plumbing fixtures (which were SO LAST WEEK by the time I even installed them) don't get watermarks on them. Eh. Harlequin pattern on the floor was done by Deux Femmes, a local amazing decorative art company. They had to bust out the pythagorean theorem *AND* the laser level for that one!

This is the antique hutch that came with the joint. People are always ripping these things out & tossing them when they update their kitchens around here. IT HURTS. Note maintenance of squalorous conditions in every elevation of this kitchen. And sweet ol' Miss Sasha, of course!

Hutch, empty.

I did this. The guys were terrible about picking up after themselves, I was the Mother Hen, feeding them and keeping them in line and cleaning up after them. I was especially satisfied this evening, I remember...

This is the "first coat" also referred to above at the sink elevation. This, of course, would have to change...

Flexible track lights for the kitchen are SO COOOL (and I'm allergic to track lights.) I also put the roll out texture on the ceiling and rocked the crown moulding.

TA-DA!!!! Here's the finished product, complete w/Calacatta marble countertop. My new hobby is sealing my stone tops. Especially since I serve (red) wine from the white one. I am very proud of the way this cabinet came out. That pendant light in the front left of the frame is lighting my soon to be installed fold down Brazilian walnut breakfast table.
