I gave a lecture on mendelian genetics today, and it was kick ass! the students seemed to be pretty interested, and I had an awesome powerpoint presentation to go with it. And then, I told them about sickle-cell anemia and malaria and how being heterozygous for the sickle trait will give you malaria resistance (and how that actually works), and they totally dug it. yeah, I love teaching! Tomorrow we are talking about human genetics, so that should be even cooler.
I had a fabulous weekend with Stephen up in Portland. The more time I spend with him the more I like him, and I like him a lot. Overall, I'm very happy about where I'm going and what I'm doing. The only sucky things are that a) he does not live near me and b) I hate taking education classes. I LOVE teaching, I HATE the stupid classes you have to take to become a teacher. They are such amazing bullshit sometimes, its ridiculous. Last week in my adolescent studies class we spent 3 hours talking about a couple our "feelings" about adolescents.
Also, I have been tutoring a lot more (increased from not at all to about 4 hours a week), which is very good for my pocket book. 4 hours isn't that much, but you make a pretty good hourly rate teaching, and it is definitely better than nothing.
I am fighting an urge to stop doing homework. I must continue... so i shall. ciao!
