The brightest part of your day: swarm0cheesecake's life update

For dinner, I made kabocha no nimono (boiled/simmered sweet japanese pumpkin) with some basmati rice. Making basmati rice is still incredibly difficult, especially in a rice cooker, but it could've been worse. The main problem was that I added too much soy sauce to the kabocha and too much salt to the rice, making this a saltier-than-I-liked meal. Thank goodness I also made some oolong tea to wash it down. At any rate, I should have the kabocha down pat on the next try, and the rice hopefully in the next two.

Last night I went to IKEA with the mistress and her two new roommates. I picked up some good stuff, including elderflower beverage concentrate and lingonberry drink concentrate (I suspect these will be useful in making mixed drinks), as well as a new comforter and duvet cover that I love muchly, and not one, but TWO lazy susans! I love lazy susans, and I haven't figured out how I'm going to use them, but nothing will stop me. Nothing. Oh, I also picked up 3 packages of swedish meatballs. Very exciting.

The weather was very cold this past week (dropping down to the low 60's while the sun was out), but we're back up to beautiful mid-70's weather. Here's hoping that this lasts for a while. Also, I'm planning on grilling on the weekend, which should also be fun. I've made kalbi the last 3 times I've gone to grill (Shahin's bday, my own BBQ, and metallian and mrsmetallian), so I'm thinking about something else. Maybe I could make swedish meatball kebabs.
...
...Hmm, there's a thought.

As of yesterday, I'm officially a third year grad student. I have just this year and the next to finish.
I'm boned.
Although I'm running this set of reactions at an even HIGHER temperature (at 1050C, instead of my usual 950 and my previous record of 1000), so maybe something will come of these reaction. Not likely though.

What else is new? VR is officially in town, as well as EC, whom I haven't seen in almost ten years. Hopefully I'll be seeing them within a few weeks. I have a new cotton washcloth that I'm hoping is nicer than the one I have; odds are against that, but it's always nice to try something new. My mom gets back from China in the next several days. And my roommate continues to annoy me, for multiple reasons. I am going to have some chocolate cookies now. Fancy shmancy Japanese chocolate cookies. Probably with all sort of weird fillings and textures.

Who's excited about Futurama? Me.
