Well, as the title suggests, it's been rather wintry weather around here of late. It started snowing very heavily yesterday afternoon and it has barely let up since. When I woke up everything was blanketed in a heavy layer of white. My boss called me this morning and said that due to the weather they wouldn't be working, so I got the day off. ROCKIN' LOVELY! I stayed home all morning cruising the web, reading, and working on finishing up a doll I've been making. (I'm secretly hoping they call off work tomorrow too. I know it's really kind of cheap of me, but it was so fun to just slack off and have fun today, and I would so enjoy another round!) My brothers and sisters gleefully bundled up and ran out into the snow to play as soon as they could. I don't know why exactly but I don't really have much of an urge to play in the snow anymore. It just seems I end up standing out there and freezing with nothing to do... I used to find it such fun when I was little though.
When the mail arrived I ran out and got it, and was very happy to find that Persuasion had arrived at last! We watched it after dinner and I quite enjoyed it. That movie has such a mood to it.
As for the doll I've been making, I finished it today! It's a doll of Marie Antoinette's dear, tragic friend, the Princess de Lamballe. I find her much more interesting than Marie Antoinette, but I'm always dissapointed by how little attention she's given and how little information I can find on her, so I decided to pay a little tribute to this unfortunate Lady. I've been working on it for the last couple days; last night I began work on sewing her a gaulle style dress which I finished this morning and while I was watching Persuasion I made her hair. The only thing left to do is paint a pair of shoes on her feet. I'm really happy with the way she turned out, especially her face, which is the best human face I've ever sculpted. (Rivaled only by a bust of a young girl I did once, but her eyes were just painted on. Lamballe's eyes were sculpted and I was terrified I was going to mess them up.) As soon as my digital camera arrives I am determined to take some pictures of her so you all can see, too!
And speaking of dolls I thought I'd share the work of one of my favorite doll artists, Marina Bychkova. She is the artist who designed the doll above, and I admire her greatly, and dream of being able to make something half as beautiful as her work. See more of her exquisite dolls at
