I was at the Ohio Star Ball this weekend. I enjoy competing in the collegiate categories; I get to dance a fair bit. And it's fun to be on a team that makes it a personal goal to scream as loud as possible at the least invitation. Our best standard couple effectively brought a fan club, though a rather generic one; we cheered for our favorite, and then we would cheer for whoever happened to be dancing in our corner. It was fun.
And I got to see the semi-finals and finals of professional smooth and latin. I got to see Andrei and Elena win everything. Katusha Demidova was there dancing with her new partner, Arunas. They did an awesome short program, a tango. Max and Yulia were there dancing a last few showcase dances as a couple; I got to see Beat again, and an amazing Matrix inspired dance. Eugene and Maria announced they were going pro, and performed their first professional showcase, a paso. I was melting up in the stands. What a great way to spend a weekend.
