Lessons learned from grad school

Just a sample of the more interesting bits of wisdom I have acquired at grad school.

1.  Always make minus sign errors in even multiples per term.

2.  When in doubt, Taylor-expand it.

3.  Any assignment that takes less than fifteen sheets of paper is short (nothing counts as record-breaking unless it is over twenty-five).

4.  If the problem includes the phrases "near" or "far from," Taylor-expand it.

5.  Professors and students do not often speak the same language.

6.  If the problem includes roots in the denominator, Taylor-expand it.

7.  Never do your own work if you can steal the book's work, your earlier work, or a mathematician's (hence the prominence of linear superposition applications).

8.  If you're stuck, Taylor-expand it.
