I have survived my first day of school. Mondays and Fridays I finish up early in the afternoon; the rest of the week I have classes that I have to take late afternoon, which I find unusual. Students are not meant to be in class in the late afternoon.
Anyway, my classes today were dance, chemistry, dance, and physics. In that order. It is wonderful. I started today with my Latin dance class, which I know will be awesome. My teacher is ridiculous; he declared we could all read so he didn't have to go over two-thirds of the syllabus, taught us half of our samba routine in twenty minutes, and threatened us all with dire retribution if our feet slid in the wrong spots. Besides that, I will be learning new routines for samba and rumba as well as learning the paso doble (excuse me while I gush in delight for the rest of the semester). The rumba is our competition dance for the international dance lab (I wonder what the bronze students will be dancing . . .) and the paso doble is our dance for the Dancesport championships in March. My teacher also concluded that we will have plenty of time at the end of the semester to learn some cha cha and jive. It will be a wonderful semester.
My chemistry class is the basic general introductory one, which will finish up the last of my general science requirements. Our professor exploded two hydrogen balloons for us, as a sample of some of the things we will learn about over the next several weeks. That class shouldn't be bad at all.
After chemistry, I flew to my Social dance class. I am taking the gold level class again, since the curriculum completely changes from fall to winter. This semester we will be doing mambo, American rumba, foxtrot, triple swing, Viennesse waltz, and two-step. We started mambo already. I can tell my teacher for that class will be focusing a lot on technique, which makes me happy. Besides, this entire semester is going to be devoted to Latin/rhythm dances--my wish after last Dancesport to rebel against standard dances has been fulfilled.
Physics this semester is thermodynamics and statistical physics, which means it will take a lot of digesting before comprehension comes. Still, most of my mechanics class from last semester is in this class, so I know a lot of people, and I have had this professor for two classes before this one. So with effort I can conquer. It has been a very good, and now I will go capitalize on my good mood to get some chemistry done before it becomes too obviously a chore.
first day,
