I'm impressed, second day back to karate and I got 3 cuts and a ripped knuckle from sparring. o_O
Anyway, I wake up pretty early this morning to go to IHOP. Oh mann...... IHOP. I haven't been there in such a long time. Awesome pancakes, as always... although mine were a little too soft. =( But I saw David + Michelle there, which was a pleasant surprise.
After breafast, I called Giancarlo up and asked if he wanted to go to Willow and visit Mrs. Riefler, who's retiring at the end of this year... It was so nostalgic going back there. All the little paths seemed so narrow, the steps so small, the ceilings so low... ITS SO SMALL NOW!!! Why do we have to grow up? When i went into the office they had a bunch of old yearbooks lying around... like from 8 years ago, when I was in 4th grade. I took a look at some of the people in my class... awww man all those people i haven't seen since Willow. Alex, Kendall, Sonny, Abby, and others..... aww so sad seeing them in the yearbook again. yep, then we went to Mrs. Riefler's class, who now teaches first grade in Mrs. Abrams' classroom. Wow she recognized us right away. I have to say I'm always impressed by teachers. How do they INSTANTLY recognize someone they haven't met for 12 years. I mean... I can recognize some of the Chinese School kids I TA'ed. Like once I ran into somoene in the bathroom, I was like... waait... I think I know you. Is your name David? Or today. During 4/5th recess. I'm like... that girl looks freakishly like someone from Chinese SChool... hmmm... heyyyy is your name Shirley? Okay that took me ten times as long as Mrs. Reifler, and she hasn't seen me in 12 years, whereas I saw Shirley last Saturday.
Okay, Mrs. Riefler takes us to the teacher's lounge (on the way, we ran into Mrs. Miller (danielle's mom) and reminisced about the health office)... and Miss Warren (err... she's married now, so she's not Miss and not Warren either) gets right up and says I saw you in the newspaper! I last saw her... at my sister's 5th grade Open House, 7 years ago almost to the day. Open House is tomorrow. =D
Then gc and I went to check out our handball wall, which is amazingly still intact and not painted over. I guess they stopped doing it, because the classic one, with the picture of Willow out in front, is still there. What a relief. At least that's still there. I'm telling you, that handball wall, although I never played on it, was a defining part of my Willow experience lol.
Then we went to walk to Pope and Spence's room and..... oh boy. we were in for a surprise. They moved the bungalos closer to Pope's building.... soo... it was very menacing and scary and narrow. And spence's room was gone and there was a big concrete lot. Which made the sandbox look very depressing. And everything seemed so small! As if growing taller wasn't bad enough, they had to jam the bungalos up closer. Ahh well we went and visited Pope, who first thing asked Why were you in the newspaper? lol, they were doing Polyhedraville. And they had their mobiles up. Man, I still have my mobile hanging up above my bed. haha wow...
Then we walked back to the office... all those memories. Going to the library, the computer lab, the CARD CATALOG at the library... music lessons, PE, the lost and found, the MPR (and all the great and not so great things at the MPR... GATE, yo-yo thingy, lining up for square-dancing, rainy day schedules), tag, the 5-second rule at the water fountain, the red lines which you can't cross, trash pick-up, a play for GATE...
Man. Big nostalgic day. Sorry for the long read. Especially since I doubt any of you went to Willow. But really, that's the only school where everyone knows the school song. Have you ever heard the Lindero song? Did you even know Lindero has a song? What about the Alma Mater singings... pretty pitiful isn't it? Well at least people know there's an Alma Mater. We STILL sing the Willow song when we get back from field trips. Speaking of field trips, Little Tokyo tomorrow. We're singing the Willow Song when we get back.
