Hungry monkeys

Feb 10, 2009 13:01

The weather had been terribly hot & dry, especially so over the CNY period. Seems like the monkeys' natural food source has depleted tremondously, and they are now resorting to "stalking" hikers for food. The mother & baby pair was sitting at a distance from us, waiting patiently. Hoping that we might pass them something to eat.

This is the first time, in the last 1 year plus of visiting Bukit Timah hill that we see the monkeys in such "pathetic" sight. I was very tempted to empty the kids' boxes of raisins by the dustbin for them to pick up, but I did not in the end. After all, they should be sourcing for their food in the forest, not at the visitors' centre. I am very concern that they might equate presence of human with availability of food in future. Just like the monkeys in Langkawi, who had already learnt that plastic bags in human's hands will most probably contain FOOD! Really scary to see monkeys there.

Maybe next time, I might just "accidentally" drop the raisins in the forest instead.
