1st homemade birthday cake

Ho-ho... ... another joyous day! October is a birthday month, whereby all the fathers (my father, then his father and now Mr Tok) in our family celebrate their birthdays. The kids had been having fun celebrating birthdays for the last 2 weeks.

As the Boy said that he would like his birthday cake (to be brought to school) to be homemade, I experimented with Mr Tok's cake with a premix cake mixture from the supermarket. Ha... ... a very simple one for a lazy person like me.

Chocolate cake lined with pineapples that happened to be in our fridge.

Darn! I wrongly bought a decorating gel, instead of icing.

Sprinkling her favorite... ... sweet stuffs.

Tadaah!! A dunno-what-pic birthday cake!
Glad I tried my hands on making a birthday cake now. Lessons learned, and to be applied on making the Boy's birthday cake :

1) Remember to turn on the top AND bottom heating element of the oven. Not just one.
2) A decorating gel is see-through, not opaque. Get a decorating icing if decorating on a dark colored cake.
3) No more rainbow sprinklers.
4) Bar the kids from getting involved in decorating the cake.

Despite the less than appealing look, it tasted kinda nice. Not too sweet, not too coarse, just nice.

Oh, by the way... ... HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MR TOK!!!

birthday, family fun
