Author’s Note: Even though this is super late I don’t even care. Getting stopped for an entire month has made me upset that I missed my penguin’s birthday but his fic will come up. I won’t miss his birthday. *puts on determined face*. Hope you like this one.

Another year older and yet he didn’t feel any different, yes he was older but he was still the youngest. Luckily he wasn’t the shortest of the group, but being the youngest meant that he was either unnoticed or he was the butt of everyone’s, mainly Hikaru’s and Yuto’s, jokes. He was the oldest in his family but that was nothing because his little brother had more popularity. Sure, he was debuted and that he had released singles as well as an album that is up and coming but his brother has released a single too, he’d been in television shows and even a movie, he was the little brother to every older person in the agency and he is even looked up to but the younger ones. Who was Ryutaro? The youngest person in JUMP, that’s who.

What started this small depression was that Ryutaro, one day while being late to a practice, he heard a kid ask his friend who he was. The answer: “Oh that’s Morimoto Ryutaro-kun; he’s the youngest member in Hey! Say! JUMP and he’s Shintaro-kun older brother.”

“He’s related to Shintaro-kun? That is one lucky boy!” the other kid says.

This had really upset Ryutaro and it made him not want to speak to anyone else for the rest of the day. He tried his hardest to make eye contact with the other members of JUMP and to act as normally as possible but all he wanted to do was go home…or even school, school would have been so much better than being here today, but they had to practice, so he acted his hardest to be normal.

When practice was over he was the first to change and the first to leave, he didn’t care about staying and talking with the others or even seeing who did the best and worst for the day and who needs to practice more, all he cared about was going home. He didn’t even bother to grab his brother to go home, no he just left. It didn’t matter, he was invisible anyway right?

“Ni-chan!” Shintaro called when he knocked on the practice room door. When he was let in, Shintaro look around for his brother and only received a look of confusion from the others, Shintaro wasn’t a little kid but it was still tradition for him and Ryutaro to walk home together.

“What are you still doing here Shintaro?” Yabu asked with a concerned face, “did your practice run long?”

“Where is my brother?” Shintaro asked.

“He left like twenty minutes ago, he was in a real rush too,” Yuto said while looking at the clock to confirm his answer.

“Really? I never saw him, oh well, maybe he had something to do. Thanks guys,” Shintaro said and then left a confused group of people.

“Was Ryutaro acting weird to you today?” Chinen asked the others.

“No not at all,” The others said simultaneously.

“Maybe it was just me then, but it seemed as though something was wrong with him,” Chinen said out loud. He received strange looks from the others but none of them said anything. Chinen left for home that day wondering about his younger friend. There were no answers as to why Chinen was the only one who noticed Ryutaro’s strange behaviour that day but he decided to wait and watch his friend for the next couple of days to see if there was any change.

Unfortunately, there wasn’t, something was wrong with Ryutaro, and it seemed that only Chinen noticed it, and if the other’s had noticed, they didn’t say a thing. For the past three days, Ryutaro would try his best to become the member that he was normally. He tried so hard that it exhausted him, it wasn’t just the dancing anymore it was the acting and knowing that no one can see him as him. He was depressed but he had promised himself not to let the others know. He left as soon as the practice was over and left his brother at work each day, and each day Shintaro came to the room asking for his brother who had left.

No one noticed this but Chinen. “Are you sure you guys don’t see anything different with Ryutaro?”

“No, we don’t, Chinen honestly if you think something is wrong with him just ask him,” said an annoyed Yamada who was bothered by the constant questions of Chinen about Ryutaro. “I didn’t mean it that way Chinen, it’s just, we don’t see anything wrong with him, he seems pretty normal to us, nothing truly out of the ordinary.”

“I’m sorry for bothering you,” Chinen said softly. “I’ll see you guys tomorrow.”

Chinen walked all the way down the hall and was headed for the elevator when he decided to make a detour and take a right instead of a left. He chose to be away from the others, he knew something was wrong; Ryutaro just doesn’t act this way on purpose, what the hell was wrong with him.

“Chinen!” Yabu said from behind, he was looking for him but he could not see him since Chinen was in the shadows hiding from the others so he could think. “Chinen, Yama-chan didn’t mean what he said, he’s really sorry, and I know you’re still here so stop hiding.”

“I’m not worried, nor do I care, about what Yama-chan said,” Chinen said harshly, he was still in the shadows. “I’m worried about Ryutaro.”

“I know, and where as I don’t see that there is anything wrong with him, there could be, but I didn’t think he was that good of an actor, no offence to him, maybe it is because you like him that you feel that there is something wrong.”

“What do you mean?” Chinen asked, “Of course I like him, but it is no different than me liking you or the others, I can’t sense when you are upset.”

“I didn’t mean it that way Chinen. You like him, like him.”

“What? No I don’t,” Chinen said in disbelief, “he’s a good friend, but I don’t think that I like him like him.”

“Are you sure?” Yabu asked, “When Kei-chan and I got together, before we got together, we could sense when there was something wrong with the other, it’s how we knew we were meant to be, Chinen just go talk to him, take him out to a café where you two can be alone and talk. Let him let everything out alright, it could be nothing, it could be something, but it is not something to be left alone. Trust me.”

“Thanks for the advice, I’ll go find him,” Chinen said, he got out of the shadow that wasn’t even necessary anymore and then headed for the elevator. Chinen almost ran all the way to the Morimoto household, he was almost out of breath when he ran up to the door and rang the bell. He only had a few breaths of air when Ryutaro’s mother answered the door and said he or Shintaro were home yet. Chinen politely thanked her and stepped down of the stairs and into the yard, ‘That doesn’t make sense, he left like almost an hour ago? What if he got stalked again? What if something is super wrong? What if he’s hurt? Oh no what if he cut himself!’ Chinen was taking this way out of context but he couldn’t help it.

He didn’t know what to do, so he just walked around the neighbourhood waiting for a sight of his friend or his friend’s brother. Yeah to Chinen, Shintaro was just Ryutaro’s brother and he felt that Ryutaro was not just the youngest of Hey! Say! JUMP, in truth Ryutaro was the youngest but it wasn’t because he chose to be and it wasn’t his only trait. Ryutaro was different from the others, not taken in by the spotlight but choosing to be in the back of the group was not a bad thing, right? “Oh I need to find him,” Chinen said the last bit out loud.

“Find who?” Ryutaro asked Chinen; surprisingly he was right behind him. “Chinen what are you doing around here? You live far away from here.”

“Uhm, I took a wrong train and since I knew you lived around here I thought you could help me get back on the proper one but then I got lost and I’ve been going around in circles,” Chinen said as he kept walking.

“I see,” Ryutaro said softly while catching up to him, Chinen’s lie was easy to see through, “And what was the real reason?”

“That was the real reason.”

“Chinen, you’ve been to my house a million times, you can easily find your way back home. Now what’s wrong?”

“Nothing, what’s wrong with you?”

“Nothing is wrong with me, I’m perfectly fine,” Ryutaro countered but the spark in his eye said that it was total bull.

“You’re lying to me,” Chinen noticed.

“What!?” Ryutaro was taken aback, no one sees through his lies, not even his own family can see through them, “I am not, I’m perfectly fine,” Ryutaro composed himself. But that spark in his eye showed Chinen the truth.

“Please, Ryutaro tell me what’s wrong,” Chinen almost begged, “I don’t know why but I know that there is something bothering you, won’t you talk to me about it? I asked the others but they saw nothing, and Yabu advised me to talk to you about it, I’m worried about you.”

“Why?” Ryutaro’s question was just one word but it held so much meaning behind it that he started to tear up.

“Because something is wrong with you and it seems like I’m the only one who noticed so I want to help, please tell me.”

“That is what is bothering me,” Ryutaro said softly as they entered a park. Ryutaro walked over to the swing set before Chinen said a word. Ryutaro sat on one of the swings but Chinen chose to stand when he followed.

“What do you mean by that? Explain.” Chinen demanded.

“It’s just as you said, the others didn’t see a thing, you’re the only one. You talked to them and they still didn’t care.”

“You don’t mean that do you?” Chinen asked, “They care, they just hadn’t noticed anything, you hid it really well, but please it took me a good look to notice that there was something wrong, you’re a good actor.”

“Thanks but that still doesn’t change things. Basically my feelings got hurt by people I don’t even know.”

“What happened?” Chinen asked with concern. “And don’t lie because I’ll know.”

“The kid asked who I was and the other said that I was Shintaro’s brother, not the other way around and that I’m only known because I’m in Hey! Say! JUMP.”

“And that’s what got you upset for the past few days?” Chinen asked in disbelief.

“Yeah, you don’t realize it because you’re known for other things than someone’s brother or the youngest of something, you wouldn’t get it. It’s like if people only knew you as being your father’s son, how would you feel about that?”

“I would feel proud, my father is the best, and so is your brother, he’s awesome, but you know what?”

“What?” Ryutaro asked angrily.

“You are awesomer,” Chinen said simply, knowing full well that wasn’t actually a word in any dictionary. Chinen stepped forward and gave the tearing Ryutaro a hug. “Don’t let trainees and juniors tell you who you are, know who you are, and know that I will be beside you for as long as you need to tell you that you are Morimoto Ryutaro, my friend and your brother is lucky to have you as a brother, you may be the youngest in JUMP but that doesn’t mean squat, you are still you, you have your own skills that set you apart from the rest of us, the world just hasn’t seen it yet. You will blossom, alright, time is what you need now, don’t take anything out of context either, what you need is knowing that you are you and no one can change that.”

“Chinen,” Ryutaro started and Chinen pulled back out of his hug, they were nose to nose. “Thank-you, you saw me when no one else did, I don’t know how you did it but whatever I don’t care, thank-you.”

“I’ll be beside you, cheering you on, don’t worry, from now on you’ll have me.” chinen said softly. “But I have to get home, it’s getting dark. I’ll call you when I get home alright, and you know what you can call me at any time if you need to talk, like Yabu and Inoo, they talk all night and call each other in the morning to wake the other up. Call me anytime alright.”

“Thanks,” Ryutaro said softly and Chinen started to walk away.“He may be gone, but he’s still there.” Ryutaro said as he watched Chinen walk away into the night.
