Authors Note: I hope people forgive me about such a late update but truthfully, chapter one was supposed to be just a one-shot but since it was demanded I felt I should fulfill that demand.
Chapter 5: Confrontation
Hikaru didn’t know what to do. The peacefully sleeping figure of his lover was just too much for him to take in at the moment. He wanted so much than to just go over and lay beside him on the bed but the other side of Hikaru also wanted to beat him to a pulp. He loved his boyfriend with all of his heart, no one else will ever share Hikaru’s heart; it was made for Yabu and Yabu alone. But the betrayal bore a huge whole in Hikaru’s heart, he had no idea how he was to fix it, he would forever be on pins and needles waiting to see if Yabu would betray him again or if he’d stay faithful, either way, Hikaru had a choice to make. This choice needed to be answered now, while there was still a few minutes time.
Hikaru made his way out of his room as quietly as possible as not to disturb the Sleeping Beauty on his bed. He made his way to the kitchen where his family was sitting around the table eating dinner. “Hikaru, there is a boy upstairs waiting for you, aren’t you going to ask him to join us?” his mother asked him.
“He’s been here for quite awhile, Hikaru-nii, did you know he was going to come over?” his sister asked him quietly.
“Not at all, we’ve actually been in a fight lately, we haven’t talked at all,” Hikaru said softly, “maybe he came to apologize.”
“Maybe,” said his father, “but why aren’t you up there now, talking to him?”
“He’s asleep,” Hikaru said simply, “he looks pretty tried as well, so I’ll let him sleep for a bit then I’ll bring some dinner to him.”
“Alright,” his mother said softly, “I’ll make a plate for him right now.”
“No, let me do it, it may help to smooth over our fight,” Hikaru stopped her; “you know a peace offering of sorts.”
“Understandable,” Hikaru’s father offered, “he did look very upset when he stopped by earlier, we had thought you’d have been right home so we let him in, he was the one who asked to wait in your room.”
“I’ll talk with him, don’t worry.” Hikaru said and then finished his dinner. “We’ve been best friends since I’ve joined the agency, I’m sure this is just one of our fights that take time to cure.”
“Let’s hope so nii-chan,” Hikaru’s youngest sister said and then slurped her rice.
Hikaru got up from the table and cleared his dishes on the way. He decided to make Yabu’s favourites of the assortment of foods that his mother had decided to cook. He carefully carried the tray up to his bedroom where he noticed that the sleeping figure had not moved an inch from when Hikaru had been in there not twenty minutes before. And with a full knowledge of Yabu’s sleeping patterns, and knowing that Yabu tossed and turned in his sleep, for him to stay still meant that something was up. Not that it wasn’t obvious, but maybe now it was affecting Yabu too.
“Ko-chan,” Hikaru said softly in the dark room. The lights were off but Hikaru was in no need to turn them back on. He knew his room like the back of his hand so he could navigate it in the dark if he needed too. But to be safe, he flipped on the little side table light, the dim light allowed Yabu’s sleeping face to glow and it made Hikaru fall in love all over again. He could not fall out of love with this boy. “Ko-chan,” Hikaru tried again, this time and even in the dim light, Hikaru could see Yabu’s sleepy eyes flutter open.
“Hmm?” Yabu moaned while adjusting his eyes to the light, “Hikaru? What are you doing here?”
“I live here,” Hikaru said sweetly, but had to elaborate when he saw Yabu’s confused face, “you’re in my bed; you apparently came over earlier and passed out or something. I brought you dinner.”
“Thanks,” Yabu said and greedily took the tray from Hikaru’s hands. Hikaru flipped on the main light for his room and it took a couple of seconds for the two of them to adjust. It was then that Hikaru saw it, Yabu had been crying. The tear stains were evident on his face and it didn’t take a genius to figure out what happened. Neither of them wanted to talk about it though and soon a silence fell over the two of them, the only noises heard were the crickets outside, the movements from the people downstairs and Yabu’s constant eating.
Hikaru decided to break the silence, “are you alright?” it was the first thing to come to his mind, of course Yabu wasn’t fine, Inoo just broke up with him and now he was insecure as to whether Hikaru would as well.
“For the most part I guess,” Yabu put on his ‘I’m alright’ face, one that would have fooled anyone who didn’t know him as well as Hikaru did.
“Liar, tell me what is wrong?” Hikaru urged, “you know you can tell me anything and everything, I am here for you, you know that right? I’ll never leave you until you want me too.”
“Really?” Yabu looked at him straight in the eyes, “Hikaru?” Yabu’s eyes glazed over. “What did I do to deserve you?”
“You were there for me when I needed you, and now it is my turn to be there for you when you need me. I love you Yabu Kota, I’ll never leave you until you want me to. That is my vow to you.”
“I love you too Yaotome Hikaru, I can’t believe I’ve been so stupid. I hate that about myself why did I do that to you, to both of you, and now Inoo’s caught wind of what has been going on and he dumped me.”
“I know.”
“What?” Yabu asked, while setting his tray down on the desk, “Did he tell you?”
“Yes and no,” Hikaru decided to be vague.
“Elaborate on that one. Please.”
“I was the one who told Inoo that you and I were together.” Hikaru said simply, “he didn’t believe me at first but then decided to ask you and in the end, he found out I was right and apologized to me, saying something along the lines of ‘what did I do to deserve you’ as well.”
Yabu said nothing but got this deadly look in his eye and if Hikaru wasn’t so far away from him at the moment, he would have hit him. Such a stupid and yet clever act deserved to be punished, but not while there were people in the house, or rather, people who were awake in the house.
“I’m sorry, but I couldn’t stand it anymore, and it was hurting Dai-chan as well.”
“I don’t care about Dai-chan’s feelings Hikaru, Inoo-chan was mine!” Yabu said angrily. “You don’t understand. I love him!”
“He loves you as well, but he’s with Dai-chan right now. Can’t you just accept that they may be happier together than you and Inoo will ever be? Dai-chan has been by Inoo-chan’s side since he joined the damn agency! Why won’t you let their love be and let them be together? Why do you have to be so selfish!?”
“I’m not selfish,” Yabu said stubbornly while crossing his arms like a child.
“Aren’t you?” Hikaru asked, “When was the last time you did a selfless act for somebody?”
“I don’t know. I don’t count my selfless acts Hikaru.”
“You know what I mean, when was the last time you actually did something nice for someone else without asking for anything in return? I don’t think you can even think of one Kota.”
“Well what about you? When did you do a selfless act?”
“I haven’t lately, everything I have done was to get what I wanted, but I’m not the one who cheated on my best friend!”
“Yes you did, with Dai-chan, I saw the way you looked at him. It was the same as how Inoo-chan looks at me!”
“If you mean how I looked at Dai-chan with gratitude and acceptance and friendship because he was there for me when we together found out your and Inoo-chan’s relationship, then yes, I did love Dai-chan for those few days. He did more for me than you have ever done for me, I don’t know where I’d be without Dai-chan the past few days. I’d probably be in some sort of depression, or something I’d rather not be in.” Hikaru stood closer to Yabu. Silently he was pleading with his boyfriend to see his side of the story, but because Yabu was so stubborn, it wasn’t going to happen anytime soon. “You really hurt me, and you don’t even seem to show the slightest bit of apology in your voice.”
“I know I hurt you, and I didn’t really mean to, I don’t know what has been going on with me for the past year but I don’t know, and truthfully Inoo-chan isn’t the only one~”
“I don’t want to know the others,” Hikaru interrupted.
“Fine, but still he isn’t the only one, maybe I don’t know I wasn’t receiving enough love and attention from you or something, I don’t know I’m not going to make up some lame excuse, I did what I did because I did it. I don’t have any other explanation, I don’t know why, I just did. I know I’m repeating myself here but maybe I have commitment issues and I can’t be tied down to one person, I don’t know, all I know is that I love you and I love Inoo-chan and I love Shoon and everyone else that I have been within the past year. I’m sorry Hikaru, but at the same time I’m not, I don’t know why I’m like this and like I said I’m not going to make stupid excuses that you’ll refuse to listen to anyways. I did it, and this time, I’m not going to do it again, I finally realize the pain I’ve put you through and why you felt so sick after you had found out the truth. I finally realize what it is like to be broken up with and not be the person to break up with someone. I’m finally seeing the other side of the spectrum and it’s not a pretty place to be. I can’t believe I did this to you, and I don’t know how you’ll ever forgive me, but I hope you will because I still love you and I always will.”
“Stop,” Hikaru said after Yabu’s little rant.
“What?” Yabu asked him simply, “I’m just telling you the truth.”
“No, you are spinning the truth so it makes me feel sad for you, I’m not going to do it this time Kota, you don’t understand what it is like to be cheated on. You don’t understand how much Inoo-chan and I felt once we found out the truth, we had to rely on others to help us stand back up on our own two feet, you don’t understand how grateful the both of us are to Dai-chan and the others. You don’t see how happy Dai-chan becomes when he is helping Inoo-chan. You don’t understand that it absolutely killed me when I saw you making out with Inoo in our spot of the building, that was where we went for privacy and at the same time we usually required our privacy, it was almost as if you wanted me to catch you. I swear if Dai-chan wasn’t with me and wasn’t able to actually keep me steady that day I would have jumped off the fricken bridge.”
Hikaru stared at Yabu, not blinking; just watching the reaction of his boyfriend. Nothing was changing, Yabu wasn’t going to change, it will never be the same again. But Yabu needed to understand, so Hikaru started to talk again.
“You killed me Yabu Kota. I don’t know how I’ll forgive you but eventually I will. I told you I won’t leave you because yes, I do love you but it will take time for me to trust you again. Thanks to you I will forever be paranoid as to whether you are cheating on me or not. I hate that you have such an effect on me and I hate that I can’t do anything to stop it. I hate that I hate you. I hate that I love you. And I hate that you can’t seem to choose one person to stick to. What did Inoo and Shoon and all the others give you that I couldn’t eh? What was it? Gentleness? Roughness? Weakness? Strength? Domination? Submissiveness? What is it? Why couldn’t I give you those things? Why did I have to be the one to suffer because you went off looking for something else? Why did Inoo-chan have to suffer when he found out that you were actually with me the entire time? He told me that you were playing it off as if we were just best friends and nothing else. You lied to him the entire time instead of telling him the truth. You don’t know how it feels Yabu Kota and you will never know, because I would never do that to you. I love you. Do you not realize that? I don’t know how often I have to tell you that before you’ll believe me. But for the moment, I want you to leave. I don’t want to speak with you anymore. I hate you Yabu Kota! At the moment, I’d rather be with Daiki. I HATE YOU!”
Yabu couldn’t say anything, so he did what his body was telling him to, he stood up and walked the gap that separated the two of them; it was just a little longer than an arm’s length, and then Yabu Kota slapped his lover across the face. He was so angry, he was furious and he was quite depressed at the sudden change of emotions of Hikaru, it was like all the emotions that he’d been keeping inside him just exploded. Hikaru needed the release and that was it, and at Yabu’s expense Hikaru said what was on his mind. Tears formed in Hikaru’s eyes from the hit but he didn’t move, he took it, what was coming to him. He didn’t clench or shake with the after affect, he didn’t even walk away, he just stared straight at Yabu who seemed shocked that he just did that.
Yabu stepped back and fell backwards on the bed; he was shocked at his own body. Never before, had he purposely struck someone with so much force that his own hand was throbbing. Never, had he struck Hikaru let alone anyone else. Yabu was not a violent person but something stirred in him that caused this pain. Yabu needed to snap Hikaru out of it, he knew that Hikaru didn’t love Dai-chan, he didn’t say that, but Yabu didn’t hear what he needed to, Yabu heard only what he wanted, and the rest was a buzzing in his ear. “I love you Yaotome Hikaru. I don’t care what you say or do to me, I am yours forever.”
“No you are not. I want you out of this house, now.” Hiakru said straight, this was no time to be playing. “GO!” Hikaru pointed to the door and Yabu stared at it. It was past midnight now and forcing Yabu to go home, all the way across town, was just cruel. “NOW!” Hikaru was angry, but not as angry as he should be.
Yabu begrudgingly got up from the bed and trudged towards the door. They shared no words, nor emotions on their faces other than the ones that were plastered there already. Once Yabu left the house, there was no turning back they were done. Hikaru was forever hurt and Yabu was the one who caused it, Yabu could never replace what Hikaru and Daiki shared the past few days, and as close as YabuHika were, they were no longer that way again. They would need lots of time to clear this one up and time was going to be their only medicine.
Yabu left the house and lumbered up the street. Hikaru watched from the window, unfazed by his words that were just shared between the two of them. He was in shock. But mostly he was just angry and tormented by his own pain. Why did he just do that? Why did he have to go that far? Why did he need to break Yabu to get him to understand? Who was going to help now? As far as Hikaru knew, he was screwed.
And once Yabu’s retreating figure disappeared around the corner, Hikaru left the window and went to bed. He didn’t bother shutting off his light but rather he became disgusted with himself for smelling the spot that Yabu had slept. He breathed in the scent of Yabu’s cologne and wanted to punch himself for doing so.
Hikaru shed only one tear that night and just as his eyelids were too heavy to hold open, the single drop rolled down his cheek.
