Susp's Review: DOTM MECHTECH TOPSPIN

The harder and more dangerous the job, the more Topspin likes it!

Vehicle Mode: Topspin is the NASCAR #48 Lowe’s Chevrolet Impala of Hendrick Motorsports. He measures 13 cm(5.1”) long and is blue and grey with a metallic silver engine block, dark grey spoiler and cannons, translucent blue windows, and white and orange accents. The number 48 is printed in green-yellow on his doors and the Sprint and Lowe’s logos are in white and blue respectively on his sides. He also features a white Autobot symbol on his spoiler.

Unlike Roadbuster, Topspin is anything but sleek and smooth. Rather, his chassis is decked out with spikes, jet boosters, and various other techno-bits. He’s also packing four cannons on his roof and doors. These can, of course, be swapped with MechTech weapons. And speaking of MechTech, Topspin’s is a black and silver cannon that turns into a pincher claw when you pull back on the trigger. It looks best when pegged into the hole on Topspin’s hood.

Transformation: Swing out and unfold Topspin’s legs, fold in his rear fenders to form shins, and lower his feet. Fold back the front hood and fold in the grille. Separate the rear section of the car and swing out the halves. Rotate the waist, swing down the arms, and lower the shoulders into place. Swing the head forward and fold back the backpack. Fold down the dark grey bits on the shoulder guns and rotate the small cannons around.

Robot Mode: Topspin’s main colours are blue and grey with green-yellow, metallic silver, and gold accents. His head is grey with a metallic silver face, blue crest, and translucent blue lightpiping. It’s been cleverly sculpted to give the impression that Topspin is wearing sunglasses and sporting long hair. He stands 14 cm(5.5”) tall, but the two large guns mounted on his shoulders increase his height up to 16 cm(6.3”). He also features C-joint rods on his forearms and large pincher claws in addition to regular fists.

Topspin’s head, shoulders, shoulder guns, hips, and ankles are ball-jointed, his upper arms and waist rotate, and his gun mounts, elbows, pincher claws, and knees are hinged. His MechTech weapon and small guns can be pegged into the holes on his forearms.

Overall, Susp Sez: Topspin has a cool car mode, an involved but straightforward transformation, and a really nifty robot mode with great play value. Definitely worth picking up. 4.5/5
