Chapter Five

This is an interesting scene, Prince Takaki thought to himself, glancing at the princess sitting across from him in amusement. Him and Princess Yamako were sitting across from each other playing a game of cards. How they started playing was rather simple, actually. After Princess Yamako blushed like there was no tomorrow, she was bent on winning her “honor” back and proposed a game of cards. After all, she wouldn’t want to win it back in any other way, she didn’t want to get bloodstains on her carpet. One thing was wrong with her brilliant plan though, she was losing. And badly. Prince Takaki smirked when she grabbed another card from the deck and again frowned. She stared at the cards intently, as if wishing to change them, before yelling out in frustration and throwing the cards down. She crossed her arms and glared at the Prince that was looking so smug.

“What are you smirking at,” she said fiercely, burning holes into Prince Takaki’s gorgeous face. His grin only became wider.

“I was just thinking, how about you pay for your failure in the form of a little batsu game?” Prince Takaki asked mischievously. Princess Yamako’s glare faltered for a second from this sudden proposal. Her eyes then narrowed again.

“Nuh-uh. You can’t think of a batsu game AFTER you play. That’s just not fair,” Princess Yamako said, scuttling away from the snickering prince, who was leaning in a little TOO close for comfort.

“Psh, fine. Then let’s play again. I’m going to beat you anyways,” Prince Takaki said, smirking while grabbing the stack of cards. Both stared at each other as flames of fury crackled around them.

In Princess Daiko’s Room~

Prince Inoo blinked and looked down at the princess standing in front of him.

“Ah, how about we sit down and...discuss your feelings?” Prince Inoo asked. Careful training from his mother, Queen Yabu, taught him to always ask a women to share their emotions. Good job Queen Yabu. Princess Daiko looked surprised and smiled greatfully at the thoughtful prince.

“That’d be nice.” she said softly. She looked at the Prince who was just standing there awkwardly. “You can take a seat anywhere…I think I’m going to sit on the bed,” Princess Daiko said, the last part mostly to herself. She hopped off her chair and walked across the room to her bed. She sat down and pulled the blankets around her. She followed Prince Inoo with her eyes as he took a seat at her study desk’s chair.

Prince Inoo made himself comfortable. When he looked up and saw how she had the blanket wrapped around her, so only her face was showing, he laughed. The princess looked up from the sudden noise.

“What?” she asked curiously, pulling the blankets tighter around her. Prince Inoo smiled and hesitated for a second, but then went over to the bed and sat down next to her, still smiling.

“You look cute like that,” he said softly, still smiling at her. Princess Daiko blushed and pulled the blankets even tighter around her, trying to hide her blush. She was having a hard time concentrating when Prince Inoo was looking at her like that, complimenting her, making her feel safe…it was almost like…well, she wasn’t sure. She herself has never felt this way, but it was a feeling that made her lean a little closer to Prince Inoo unconsciously. When she realized this she quickly shifted back to her original position and realized how silent it was.

“A-ano…I just want to thank you for…well…I’m really happy…that you like me,” Prince Daiko said softly, trying to push the silence away. Agh! What was she saying?! Princess Daiko felt like kicking herself for saying something so stupid and looked up at Prince Inoo nervously, wondering what he would say back.

“Don’t thank me, it was love at first sight, really,” Prince Inoo answered back. And so his corniness returns. The prince turned towards the princess and gave her a warm smile. “My mom has always told me that you don’t choose who you love, but love does. Now I realize what she’s talking about,” he said, finishing.

If possible, Princess Daiko blushed even more. Love at first sight, she thought to herself, is that what it is? Somehow, she still had some suspicions.

“Why do you want to marry me?” Princess Daiko asked suddenly, curiousity lacing her sweet voice. Prince Inoo looked up at the princess in surprise.

“Well…I…” Prince Inoo started, not sure what to say. Dammit! Why was he so nervous all of a sudden?! Prince Inoo licked his lips and tried to think through his millions of corny lines to save him from this situation. When he found none he flushed and looked up at the ceiling.

Princess Daiko frowned. “Should I be worried that you can’t answer my question?” she asked, sounding somewhat annoyed. Prince Inoo stole a glance at the princess and was somewhat surprised that she looked somewhat disappointed. She noticed Prince Inoo staring at her and looked back at him, unconsciously pouting her lips.

She…she looks so freaking cute! It’s getting, like, really really hot in here, Prince Inoo thought, flushing as his eyes fell on Princess Daiko’s pink, soft lips.

Princess Daiko’s glare gave into a curious one. Why did the prince look so flustered all of a sudden? “Ne, Prince Inoo? Are you okay? Oh! Do you have a fever?” Prince Daiko asked in a worried tone. She batted the blankets away from her and shifted towards Prince Inoo. She placed one hand on Inoo’s forehead and the other close to Prince Inoo’s thigh, trying to balance herself on the fluffy bed.

Prince Inoo’s heart stopped. He stared at Princess Daiko, who’s face was only a few inches away from his, and swallowed nervously when he felt the tip of her fingers slightly touching his leg. He opened his mouth to respond back but nothing came out. He flushed even more and realized that the more he blushed, the more worried Princess Daiko became. He swallowed and tried again. “I-I’m fine…j-just…it’s a little hot in here?” Prince Inoo said, more like a question then anything. It was true though, Princess Daiko was so close he could feel her breath on his face, and if you took away his intense nervousness, he was actually enjoying the feeling.

Princess Daiko sighed in relief. “Ah, that’s good. With how red your face was, I thought you were sick or something! Also,” she said, giggling a little bit, “you didn’t answer my question with a corny line, so that was another reason why I thought you were sick.” Princess Daiko laughed and started to shift back to her original position.

Prince Inoo panicked. No! He didn’t want Princess Daiko to move away! He quickly grabbed her arm but then hesitated. What am I supposed to do now?! I just acted on impulse, Prince Inoo thought to himself furiously. He looked at Princess Daiko hesitantly but froze when he saw her just staring at him with confusion. Her eyes were slightly wider then usual and her lips were slightly opened, as if she was going to ask a question. Prince Inoo swallowed nervously and licked his lips. He leaned in and hesitated for a short moment, and then placed his lips on Princess Daiko’s.
