I am going to be in so much trouble with my housemates.
Having successfully badgered them into dumping NTL in favour of BT and Tiscali, we now have no phone until Friday next week, and no internet after Monday (when the NTL contract runs out) until some unknown later date.
We have a "fault on the line". BT will fix it for free, but not until Friday, and they have diverted all calls to my mobile (also for free), which sort of has reception on my desk, so it can be used with a handsfree kit.
Note to anyone suffering similar problems in the future - the only way I could get hold of an actual person (having tried 151 about 4 times from a noisy callbox on the side of Iffley road) was to call the operator and sound like I was about to cry. Not something I have to do often, but can be useful ;) I naturally sound like this when I'm stressed, frustrated and trying not to scream and swear at the person on the other end of the line. I find it is much more effective than actually screaming and swearing, if less cathartic.
I am not looking forward to people coming home tonight.
