CATS are different than SATS in that they measure potential and SATS measure attainment. Or something like that.
They project GCSE results on CATS. I think they are the modern equivalent of the old intelligence tests which are sooo politically incorrect in this day and age.
It's all to do with statistics I suppose. The State schools have CATs too, it's how they stream the pupils.
Whatever! I'm one proud Mummy tonight.

It just means that she won't be struggling at her new school so I'm glad. It means that I was right in deciding to send her there. The only struggle will be me trying to pay the fees rather than Lucy trying to keep up with the other kids there. I would have been happy if I could have got her into one other (State) school in the area, but alas, our Church attendance was too pitiful and we were rejected. So now she is at the top independant school and I have to dig deep for the fees. I always knew she was bright, her primary school always told me so too, and now her new school confirms it. So it will all be worth it. I'm just trying to help her in more than academic success which she would achieve anyway. At least she won't be wasted by a culture of apathy.

Absolutely. That's why I am so pleased about the secondary school we're using. Results-wise, it's up there with the best in the country, and Ofsted were really impressed with the kids' attitudes to learning when they visited last year.

So El's tests of last winter must have been CATs. I didn't know what they were called, shame on me! ;-) She's doing very well, though, in all her core subjects.

It becomes the prime motivator doesn't it? To get your kids into a decent school, one that you can have confidence in to do the best for the child.
It just goes to show how little confidence we have in just allowing them to be placed in any school. By rights, all schools should be good enough, but we know they are not all good and some of them are downright frightening.
Our kids are lucky in that we, as parents, realise this and plan in advance. They all deserve the best chance and I'm glad that ours have got their chance to develop.
