A couple of weeks ago there was an attempted burglary in a house at the top of the lane. The burglar entered by first climbing onto a balcony and then removing the window from its frame. This provided entry into the main bedroom. The husband woke up and seeing a dark figure searching the dresser drawers yelled "What the bloody hell do you think you're doing?" The burglar, politely under the circumstances, whispered "Oh, Sorry mate!" and jumping out of the windowless window frame, ran off into the night.
The image of of such a considerate and polite burglar makes me laugh, a lot. It also makes me think I should be a bit scared in case the same happens to me.
There have been a few burglaries recently. The farm cottage has been burgled twice whilst the family were on holiday. A family in the other valley had their quadbike stolen from their garden - those nightime burglars dismantled the drystone wall stone by stone and after cutting the chain wheeled it through the gap and half a mile down the lane into a getaway truck. The family and neighbours never heard a thing.
Even consevatory family, next door, were burgled. That was quite frightening really. The burglars climbed on top of the wheely bin, took a panel out of the conservatory roof, disabled the alarm and taking the car keys to three vehicles stole three of their cars! All that without making the two black Labrador dogs bark! Mr Conservatory heard the cars starting and looking out of the windows saw them being driven away. The police actually found them all the next day and arrested a bunch of people.
It's the degree of planning and watching that worries me. I suppose I should be more concerned. In truth though, I've never felt scared down here. If I woke up and found a man in my bedroom I think I would either beat the living daylights out of him or die of a heart attack!
I should get a big dog. I would like a dog even, but can't imagine working my hours and taking it for long walks twice a day.
This is where big boyfriends or husbands come in useful. They're not easier than dogs though. LOL
