That Time of Month
“Can I?” Caspian tried to help Susan Pevensie up on her saddle.
“No.” She eyed him warily before attempting to do it by herself.
“Bu-”
“I SAID NO!”
Before Caspian could even finish, she already cut him off. She didn’t want to admit that she needed help, but it was only because of the skirt she was wearing that made it impossible to move. The rest of her siblings watched with mild interest as the new high king and queen bicker from behind.
“Susan just let m-” Caspian said in another attempt to help her.
“What part of NO don’t you understand?!” She snapped irritably making him wince and step backward.
Something was terribly off today. He didn’t know what, but he was sure there was something wrong with the Queen of Old. She usually let him help her but she was proving to be an impossible feat at the moment. It wasn’t long before Queen Susan finally managed to get on her horse and once she did, she couldn’t help but glare at Caspian for assuming that she was some kind of damsel in distress.
She signaled to her brothers and sister but did not even spare a glance at her betrothed; With that being done, she rode off into the woods. Lucy giggled and followed her sister but not after giving Caspian a sympathetic gaze.
“I don’t understand…” Caspian said in a soft voice as he pushed himself up on Destrier.
“Sorry mate but it’s just that time of month.” Peter gave him a teasing smile before chasing after his sisters.
“I still don’t get it.”
“I’m sure you don’t.” Edmund had yet to follow his siblings and opted to stick to Caspian’s pace instead. The tanned king looked at him questioningly and the young king couldn’t help but sigh.
“I really shouldn’t be the one to explain it to you but since you never had sisters… well…” He knew at once that Edmund was uncomfortable with the topic but he needed to know.
“Every month… a girl bleeds… er… no… that’s not right.” The just king ruffled his hair in exasperation making Caspian smile.
“So… in every month there will be a week where in the girl suffers from hormones… yeah that’s right. Hormones.” Caspian was silent, waiting patiently for him to continue.
“These hormones… are capable of affecting a girl’s, in this case, Susan’s moods. She’s annoyed because she thinks your making her seem incapable of doing things… but that’s just the monthly visitor talking… err… you know?”
Caspian stopped Destrier from trotting and tried to absorb all the information Ed had been sharing with him. The Just King laughed and steered his horse next to him. Caspian looked up at him, realization dawning on his handsome face. King Edmund placed a hand on his older ‘brother’s’ shoulder, giving it a comforting squeeze.
“So much for chivalry eh?” And with that he kicked his horse and sped past Caspian, not able to contain his laughter.
