Tonight is my second linguistics class (LING 200), and Tuesday evening was the first class. I really love linguistics and am looking forward to LING 200, but having three hours of class, from 7-10pm, is not fun. Since the class gets out so late, the only viable bus option is the 99 B-Line. Thank goodness the class isn't on a Friday night, otherwise I'd have to put up with a bus full of drunk people. (My LING 101 final exam was on a Friday night, 7-10pm, and it was not fun, dealing with a bus full of drunk children and a Native woman who was on drugs and making disgusting loud burps every five minutes.) However, since the 99 B-Line is pretty much the only bus leaving UBC at 10pm, everyone takes it, and it was packed. Ugh.

Anyway, midway through the class, my bladder was going to burst. So after the prof finished lecturing about something he asked, "So, does anyone have any questions?" and I asked if we were going to have a break. He said that he was just going to lecture for a little while longer and then give us a break, but asked if I would like one now. I replied honestly and said "yes", but told him that I hadn't known if we were going to be given a break (during the course introduction, the prof never mentioned if we were going to have a break), and that I could wait a little longer instead of interrupting his lecture (although it was already 8:30pm by this time!). He said that he would give a short break right then instead of later.

When I asked about a break, the class laughed (in a friendly way), but I'm sure that tons of people were thinking, "Thank goodness someone asked!" because most, if not all, of the girls made a beeline for the bathroom.
