Yesterday I was at the downtown library shortly before closing time. All the shops were closing as well, and a Blenz employee was cleaning up the tables. On one of the tables someone had left a newspaper, and the Blenz employee picked it up and started walking towards the garbage can to throw it out. An environmentally conscious person saw the ( Read more... )

Most food service places don't recycle anything but corrugated cardboard. It's affordable to recycle cardboard but I don't think that there is even a service that collects other recyclables from businesses. Recycling is expensive and if the city isn't paying for it, then it's not worthwhile.

I think not polluting our Earth makes it worthwhile. It's such a shame that the city doesn't make it easier to recycle. It's disgusting.

Recycling isn't the opposite of polluting. It takes energy and creates pollution to collect & transport recyclables, and then energy to break down the materials, and then more energy to make them into something else. And if the recycled materials cost more to use than new materials, no one is going to buy them and it makes doing the recycling an expensive process that won't break even. There is only so much room in the market for recycled newspaper ( ... )

But the employee could have easily just given the guy the paper. What was the point not to?

He was just being a douche.

I try my best to reduce paper usage, but it's not always easy, being a student. But I certainly reuse paper. I have a bag in which I keep scrap paper, and after using the scrap paper, I recycle it. I certainly try my best to reduce and reuse whenever possible.

Blenz has many, many problems. They don't get my business unless there's no where else for a spot of tea or some juice and a nice dry place to sit. I think there's one at UBC that doesn't horribly suck. They ALL suck.

I never go to the Blenz at UBC. The only place on campus from where I will buy coffee other than Starbucks is a specific cafe in one of the science buildings. I will also buy coffee from the bookstore because it brews Starbucks coffee, thus it is Starbucks. I don't like taking risks on sketchy, random coffee!

I never bought coffee from the Starbucks in the SUB. They've never gotten one of my orders right. I liked the one in the newer engineering building on Main Mall.

And Blenz is gross. Everytime I order something there it tastes...'off'. Blegh.

They never fuck up my order, but then again, I always order a "tall coffee". I go to the one in the SUB or the village.

I think "crap" is the taste you're thinking of.
