As I have previously mentioned, it is now common for people to stand at the end of lines when they are not waiting in line. This afternoon I was in the food court at school, standing in line to get some lunch. There were quite a few people in line, and after several minutes, I had the suspicion that the guy who was standing at the end of the line, chatting to his friend, was not actually waiting in line for that eatery. So I asked him if he was waiting in line, and not surprisingly, he said no. I grumpily said, "Then don't stand at the end of the line!" and he replies back, "I'm getting coffee."

The end of that particular line ended near a central self-serve coffee area, but the guy did not have to stand where he was; he could have moved over a couple of inches and gotten his coffee and not look like he was standing in line. Also, he had been standing there for several minutes chatting to his friend; it did not look like he was "getting coffee" to me!
