So aside from having burnt the roof of my mouth eating something this evening, I'm happy. It's more annoying that anything else. What a drag.
So day...three? Of living on campus was the best so far, I think. Hard to tell, I've been super sore all day long. This bicycle and I are getting a lot of mileage. I'm ever so glad I don't have a car, honest. However, I'm in such poor shape that we're not exactly happy. I pant riding across campus, for one. My shoulder's ache from my seat being too high for my comfort. But mostly, my ass hurts. It's the sort of thing you don't notice until you are sitting on it, but then it's like (what I imagine) to be sodomised. By an extremely uncomfortable bicycle seat, no less. But today that didn't seem so bad. I'm not sure why exactly; was it because it's better or because the aches in the rest of my body mask it? I don't know, but what I do know is that the more time I spent sitting today, the stiffer and more grandmotherly I became. By the end of the evening I was limping, grimacing every time my knees bent, and feeling feeble.
All good qualities to have.
But I'll be okay once I get back to what I want to be. And I shouldn't lose what fitness I get during winter, since my housing complex has a fitness center right here. How sweet is that? Oh, and of course we have Rugby. Duh.
This morning started with a wonderful catered breakfast of scrambled eggs, sausage, muffins, juice, and fruit. Mary, a very outspoken vegan, was in heaven and nommed about fifty strawberries I think. She was tired from her partying housemates, and complained the whole damned day, but I didn't mind. It was like being at home again. But we're kind of stuck to each other permanently now, I suspect.
She's a Whovian.
I didn't volunteer this, but our team leader asked what shows we watched. I didn't respond outside of saying "Well, if I had BBCA, I wouldn't ever leave my apartment..." We then discussed popular BBC programs. And she mentioned it. She did. Oh yeah. I told her, "I'm going to hug you now." Then we geeked out. A lot.
It also turns out that she doesn't drink (I guessed as much) is a Physics major and not incredibly humble. But hey, if you know no one here, you have to do some self promotion. We've pretty much decided that she needs to replace one of my roommates and use the stove to fix us tofu.
So we spent the day in boring little lectures and modules. We got rained on. We received sandwiches for lunch; Mary got a salad. We began a scavenger hunt but it kind of failed, so we visited a computer lab instead. Our last thing of the day was overbooked or something and we were turned away at the door. Heartbroken, I came home and enjoyed four hours on my computer.
After watching two episodes of Colbert (fucking love that man) and trying to psych out my last roommmate (who moved in officially today) by playing Craig's band's cd, I hurried up and left before they did so that they didn't think I stayed in all evening. And I certainly was a far cry from in my room all night.
At eight began Late Night at Memorial Union (Mu) which was promising to be lame. There was a hypnotist and a lot of free stuff, but we remained largely unconvinced. I wandered around, stole a condom (not expired like at comm college) went on another scavenger hunt, tried to throw a bowl, gave up, and wandered around despondently for a little while, considering going home.
That is, until I found the multicultural center.
And next to the multicultural center was Bunco.
I'd never played that game before in my life, but five minutes in and I was HOOKED. Dreadfully simple, you just toss dice, scream 'BUNCO!' throw a stuffed animal around, and move seats every five minutes or so. I eventually ended up paired with a boy named Ryan, a freshman in Biology. He was more than just a little adorable, but that's what he was, cute. Not handsome, not good looking, not tall dark and handsome. But he could toss those dice like nobody's business. We eventually did win a round (when there were a whole four players left) with a perfect finish- we actually rolled a bunco, and won a large pizza each. I won several other things as well during the course of the evening, but that was the best.
Basically, I thought I would be gone by 8.30-9.00, and I only left at 10.56. I had to ride home in the dark, made a wrong turn (which I would have made in daylight too) and stumbled into my dead silent building. Now I'm going to shut down and go to bed, I've got a field trip with my learning community tomorrow afternoon with a picnic afterward. Free food again, FTW.
