So, my spring break has been a bit disorienting. I basically had the worst pain I think I've ever had in my life on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday due to a reeeeally bad outer ear infection. My ear felt a little sore on Friday night. No big deal. I put some alcohol in my ear. On Saturday, my ear hurts a little more and there's some fluid in it but advil makes everything better. At 1 AM Sunday morning, my ear starts to hurt quite a bit but I'm still able to fall asleep by 2 AM. I wake up at 5 AM with my ear throbbing and getting worse no matter what I do. I finally called my dad at 6 AM and preceded to sob while asking what to do (I thought I couldn't take anymore advil for fear of exceeding 6 tablets in 24 hours). I took more advil and finally fell asleep around 8. I woke up at 9 feeling much better so I decided to go to work. Not the greatest of ideas but I didn't feel bad then and I didn't want to force other people to do my job (which would have happened since I would have called in on such short notice). I worked from 10-6.
During work, the pain was bearable but towards the end my ear started to leak bloody liquid. I went home and then proceeded to drive to Houston. That night it took two hours for the pain medication (codine and advil) to kick in before I could fall asleep. I went to my dad's office the next day where he examined my ear. I couldn't hear at all out of my left ear and it was draining blood and pieces of bloody mucous. My dad couldn't even see my ear drum because my ear canal was so swollen and told me that I was so bad that I had to take oral and topical antibiotics (usually you just use topical). That afternoon and night I thought I was going to DIE. My ear canal became swollen shut. I couldn't move my mouth or completely shut my jaw and the left side of my face was swollen. I couldn't lay down because it put too much pressure on my ear drum. This was worse than getting my wisdom teeth taken out. The pain medication FINALLY kicked in around 9 PM and I went to sleep fearing I would not be able to once the pain medication wore off. The next day, I had some pain but not much.
I came back to Austin on Thursday to work. I still can't hear all of the way out of my left ear but my ear canal is slowly becoming less swollen. Still bleeding a bit. Isn't that cute? Bloody mucous coming out of my ear.
So, that's been my spring break. Yesterday and today, all I did was study. I'm slowly catching up but I've made a lot of progress. These next two weeks won't be fun due to tests, trying to catch up to be prepared for the tests, and juggling work/yoga in there. But whatever. I hope everyone is well.
