Onyx Alignment Ch. 1
Lily still felt like it had all
happened in just a second, one painful second that changed her life forever.
She could still see her parent’s faces as they were sitting in the living room.
The man in the black suit was sitting across from the family; he had finished
explaining the situation to them. It was
almost like his words were bullets that rattled her mind. She couldn’t even think clearly as he
finished talking. She didn’t understand what was going on. She looked at her
mother who was crying holding onto her father like a child. Her father’s face
on the other hand showed no emotion, whether it was shock or him just being
rational in this situation it was unsettling.
“I understand that this new is….surprising and quite unsettling but your daughter is a first born. Without training and understanding of her power, she could end up hurting herself and many other people.” He said firmly in a deep, rumbling tone.
“So...she is one of those things they are always talking about on the news” her father said coldly.
‘She is one of those things’. That phrase sank in her mind every time she thought about it. He didn’t say my daughter or lily; he referred to her as if she was his daughter. No, she wasn’t his at least not anymore; she was a ‘thing’ not human but not an animal. She had heard that many people feared and hated the first born but she didn’t quite understand it until that fear and hate had centered on her. The man she was looking at now wasn’t her father anymore in one sentence he completely disowned her.
“What’s going to happen to me? What am I?” she asked the man in the suit as tears dripped down her face. It was too much for her to handle, she was only 13. She was supposed to be worrying about school, friends, and boys. Not about being this thing that could kill and hurt people.
“With your parent’s permission we will take you into our custody today and move you to the newly developed FOSS site. From there your clothing and personal belongs will be sent for as you will live and learn about your new powers in a safe environment.” The man said.
“Take it” her father said as he stood from the couch and motioned for his wife to stand along with him.
“That thing isn’t my daughter, not anymore.” He said as her mother wailed as the tears streamed down her face, yet she did nothing to protest his decision.
“Sir, your daughter being a first born doesn’t change anything. She still is human and she still has feelings!” The man exclaimed.
“That thing isn’t my daughter! My daughter isn’t a monster!” the father yelled as they stormed out of the room.
Silence overtook the room as soon as the parent’s had left. Only the breathing of the man and herself could be heard. Tears started to run down her face, she couldn’t decide if it was from sadness, anger, or despair. Most likely it was all three she thought to herself as she let herself sink to the floor.
The man in the black suit sighed as he stood up from his seat and walked over to her. He offered her his hand as he kneeled next to her.
“Lily was it?” he asked as she nodded “I’m not going to lie to you about this situation, I feel that you’re old enough to understand what is going on here.” He said as he helped her to stand from the floor.
“You’re a first born, you’ve been given a power that is quite dangerous and worth fearing but it can also help people and you can protect people. This won’t be the last time someone will show anger or hate towards you but you will grow strong and learn to show them love and compassion in return.”
“My parents hate me and my life is over because I’m some kind of monster.” she said angrily to him. “You are talking about helping people like that! Why should I when they just wish I would die!” she shouted at him
“Because you a better person than they are Lily, I can feel it. You are going to be great and help people but to do that you will have to overcome a lot of thing. This is just one of them” he said gently to her as he smiled as to reassure her
“You don’t even know me” she murmured in response “I don’t even know you”
“My name is Milan Aldric, I am 25 years old and I work for the World Health Organization. I am here to take you to FOSS, which is the First Born Observation and Study settlement, where if you choose to come with me you will live for the next couple of years with people just like you”
“So you want to study me?”
“Yes and no, we want to learn as much as possible about the first born so that we can help them grow normally and learn to use their powers in beneficial ways.” He said confidently
“…Fine, I’m Lily Adeline.”She said as she steadied her resolve. “I’ll go with you to this FOSS place, it probably the only place I can since I’m not welcomed here anymore, well lets go Milan” she said as she moved towards the front door.
“Just call me Mack, Everyone else does” He said as he smiled at her and opened the front door as they walked towards the black sedan
