The Expenadables - A Manly Movie

Aug 16, 2010 00:08

Ok, first off I grew up with these types of movies.  I watched them with my father, movies like Rocky, Bloodsport.  My favorite childhood actors were Schwarzenegger, Stallone, JCVD, Steven Segal, and etc. You get the point.  I FUCKING LOVED THIS MOVIE.  This was not as good as back in the day but just a good ole shoot em up..  Lets start with the bad

The Bad ( But how?)
  • Through the entire film I just had a nagging feeling that something was off, at the end i realized it.  The cinematography was lacking and just felt a little jarring through the whole experience (Though i was able to quickly shake this off.)
  • The second problem was just bad CG, at time it was just horrible.  Spoiler: Near the end of the movie stallone stabs a man through the neck with blade.  The blade and blood look like CG.  What happed to good ole fashion props people? Not everything need to be rendered with computer.
  • Cheesy Lines (what do you expect its a man movie)
The Good (Now the long list ^_^)
  • Cheesy Lines, I grew up with these movies in the late 80's and early 90's.  I love cheesy lines especially in these types of movies.  They are just par for the course and actually make the movie watching experience more complete
  • Hot Women - There are only like three women that actually have lines and they are beautiful.
  • Awesome visuals and fight scenes - Everything that wasn't CG was awesome and the fight scenes were spectacular. I found myself a few time in the seat shifting and clenching my fist while just whispers "go, go go kick his ass." and when a fight scene makes me do that i appreciate it.
  • Fight scenes - in the second half of the movie all the bigs kinda come into play as they invade the island of vilena (i think thats the name) and there are several fights simultaneously.  This is about the only time i appreciated the cinematography in this film. The quick switching between fight were never confusing.  you always knew that a change happened and who was fighting.  That was something to appreciate.
  • Gratuitous Violence - Blood, gore, raspberry jello explosions.  I don't care what you want to call it, i call it fucking awesome.
  • I loved Mickey Rourke's character he just was awesome.

In The end i enjoyed this movie despite is flaws. Yes this is a "turn you brain off at the door" film but you know what i don't care.

I am going to give this movie a 7 out 10. Not a must go see but at least a Matinée viewing.  Just the feel of the film and the constant vibe in a theatre is a must for this film and truly brought me back to the old style action film.  I'm a Man! *punches air*
