She found comfort in watching him sleep tonight, seeing the gentle rising and falling of his chest, proving that he was still with her. He had scared her tonight and she had seriously laid into him for it. She shouldn’t have really, she knew, it wasn’t how it had been when she had first come back for him, he hadn’t been trying to get himself killed. He had definitely been pushing himself too hard though and she was just glad that she had been there and that the knife was easily within her reach.
She wasn’t quite sure what he’d been thinking, trying to exorcise a demon without her there. Sure he had managed it when he returned the favour and saved her life, but the guy hadn’t exactly realised Sam was there and she was still there to back him up if he failed again. No back-up and no devil’s trap was just a recklessly stupid idea and he shouldn’t have considered it this early in the game.
She did feel a little bad though, seeing the look on his face when she’d yelled at him for being an irresponsible moron. She’d realised then, not that she’d really taken the information in; that Sam was looking for her approval, trying to make her proud. Maybe she would make it up to him in the morning, but for now, she would just watch over him.
She hated to see the bandages lining his torso, but thankfully the wounds weren’t too bad, they would only hinder him for a day or two. Until that time was over however, Sam was going to be staying home and Ruby would be sure to keep him safe, whether he liked it or not. The white cloth didn’t belong on him, he wasn’t meant to be marred, not her not-so-perfect saviour.
