Bandages
The bandages around Ruby’s torso make him uneasy.
They are a reminder of who Alistair is and what he does to his victims, which is no comforting thought when they know he’s still after them.
They are a reminder of who Ruby is and what she’s willing to do for him, which is reassuring, because he can trust her, but also frightening, because devotion like that gets people killed.
But the most unsettling thing about the bandages is that since the wounds beneath them have stopped seeping, they are a pure, pristine white.
The color looks oddly good on her.
