Bye, Olympics. Bye, Ronon Dex.

I'm a little depressed now that the Olympics are over. Boo.

The second week was awesome, with the US Women winning gold in soccer, and US Men winning gold in volleyball. And, Bryan Clay winning the decathlon - sweet! People always make such a big deal over the 100m race, but the decathletes have to do that race, plus 9 other events. 0_o

And how much did I love that they awarded the medals for the men's marathon, the last event of the games, at the closing ceremonies. With all the other athletes there - that must have been so moving for the medalists.

Anyway, everyone is making a big deal about how London has no chance of hosting better games than Beijing. But really, I think if no one attending gets murdered during the London Games? That would automatically make them better. I'm just saying.

Some really interesting stats about the Beijing medals here, such as:

* China won 27 gold medals in judged sports.

* The United States won 4 gold medals in judged sports.

I have a couple of thoughts about SGA 5.6 "The Shrine" -

* Firstly, I hate, HATE SciFi, MGM, Brad Wright, RCC, Mallozzi, et. all for canceling the show and THEN GIVING US AN EPISODE LIKE THIS. Seriously, how can they be so cruel? Wankers.

* This was an amazing episode, and the Hewletts just acted the hell out of it. Actually, everyone's performance was fantastic.

* I loved the character moments with Woolsey - talking about his father's decline, and asking John to say goodbye for him - but also that funny little scene in the beginning.

* Oh Ronon Dex! You are just too cute for words, with your "Hey buddy" and your refusal to give up and your comforting Jeannie. And you carry Rodney home! *loves*

* I thought Keller was great in this. Until Jeannie got there and could make decisions as next-of-kin, she did what she had to do and made all the tough calls. I love her competence during surgery... she just had to make up her mind that she could actually do it. Then, there was no stopping her.

* I did really like the sweet ending and the "I love you," and I think Rodney and Jennifer are all kinds of adorable together. But Sweet Mother of All That Is Holy: could this episode BE more slashy? How many times did Rodney call out for John? AND GO RUNNING TO HIM IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT. My god, the legions of pr0ny fic that will come out of the beer drinking scene...

* One of my favorite things about this episode was Rodney's reaction once they get to the cave, and he's "normal" again. I love his (totally justified) fury and confusion and reluctant acceptance of his "last supper," and that he TOTALLY calls them on the fact that they say they did it for him, but in reality, the trip is for everyone BUT Rodney. And then he tries to apologize for his reaction, and go with the flow ("D'you have some kind of itinerary planned?") - which is such a cute Rodney moment. Really, really interesting human emotions here, from everyone.

* KELLER: I have enough anesthetic to put you out. You're not gonna feel a thing.
McKAY (plaintively): It's probably a hammer.

* In conclusion: this may be the best SGA episode evar!
