The relationship between motivation and language acquisition is one of the most interesting area for me, and I wrote a lot of paper on that when I was in grad school. I'm still looking for a theme that I can keep studying and possibly I can research if I go to Ph.D program someday.

For these 2 years of teaching, I found an interesting tendency about language acquision in my Japanese classroom. It's not based on a research or anything, just a quick judgement, so I can't rely on my needs analysis at all. but it's interesting.

Every semester, I ask my students to answer some questions, such as "why are you taking Japanese class?"
and most of the students who wrote that they're taking the class cuz they love Japanese cartoons are not doing good in class. Those who wrote that they're interested in the culture are doing really great. hmm...they had some kind of motivation when they started learning in a way, but I'm wondering what makes the difference. Of course some cartoon lovers can do really good on exams. There's always an exception.

I don't know if I can do some research on that, but I started reading some journals about motivation and language learning again. Also I will do the second survey in my class next week. I'm thinking about the questions now. A psychology professor is taking my class, so I will ask her opinion on this too.

I guess I want to go back to school. I want to get Ph.D someday. 4 years as a full-time and within 7 years as a part-time to graduate. I need more of teaching experiences. God I'm gonna get old by the time I achieve this goal. I'll get married and have kids first before I go back to school hopefully.

Raising bilingual kids seems really exciting. Yeah, it is amazing, actually. This is my interested area too. I'll hang out with Kuniko and Chika again this week. god, it's so difficult to find a theme though cuz I'm interested in so many things about Chika's language acquisition......can't wait to see her on Thursday.
