Throw your head back, up toward
The golden sun let it kiss weary eyelids
Struggling to keep open -the world, still too coarse for
A sensitive iris

Stretch your arms high above your sleepy crown
Reach and meet the long pale arms of a nurturing
Warmth, filling the sandbags needed to keep
The sea from flooding into the bay

Dive deep into the earth, plant your toes
in firm soil, grow tall beside
your mother’s cherry tree, recalling those
wishes made before massive skies
bringing the dawn to an endless
night.
