Revisiting Manga

I've noticed recently that my favorite mangaka is changing as time goes by and more artists are releasing their work.

Whenever i finish one short series and start another i find myself liking the same mangaka's style. I also find myself liking similar... not storylines, but je ne sais quoi. Essence. For example, everyone know that Kino no Tabi is probably my all time favorite anime. It's pensive. Or at least makes me pensive about a world that's not my own. The story doesn't revolve around something cliche like love. The stories I like are usually episodic in nature, where the main character learns about his/her world one day, one ghost, one city at a time.

I still have my old favorites.
Watase Yuu's Arata Kangatari is really good. She's changed her drawing style a bit to make ppl's chins less baby face round, and more pointy. Sometimes it's too pointy, but i guess that's just from rushing. It's about two boy's both named arata, who switch worlds and have to fight each other's battles. One battle is facing bullies at school, while the other battle is trying to survive in a world of magic and swords and.. you get the idea.
Tanemura Arina's Sakurahime Kaden is refreshing, after how much I hated Shinshi Doumei Cross. But i think i've moved on from her style. Too much shoujo. And the main character is tsudere through and through. blah.

New Favorite Mangaka:
Suzuki Julietta. Her stuff is mostly shoujo. But not ooey gooey shoujo. Akume to Dolce is her most "typical shoujo" about an awkward love between a human who loves baking sweets and a demon who likes eating them. Kamisama Hajimemashite hasn't turned into a shoujo yet, and so far, it's just freaking hilarious. Reminds me a lot of early early Fruits Baskets. My favorite is Karakuri Odette. Not shoujo, not really comedy either. Just a story of a very human like robot trying to live as one, despite her creator's concern. Kino no Tabi-esque.

Midorikawa Yuki. She has an extensive list of stuff. Akaku Saku Koi and Hiiro no Isu are part of my regular reading list. First one is a shoujo, about a girl in love with a boy who's voice is so beautiful that noone can resist his commands. So he's walled himself off from the world. And the second one is a little wierd. It's about a missing illegitamate son of the king who should be on the throne but noone can find him. His two friends from childhood miss him dearly, and only want to see him again.
Both of these are mediocre stories. I read them out of boredom but what i really like is Natsume Yuujinchou or Natsume's Book of Friends. It's become two anime series, which I have yet to watch. It's about a boy who's grandmother had the ability to see ghosts. She was lonely and too powerful for her own good, so she forced the ghosts into a contract and bound them to a book. Now her grandson who also inherited this power is under attack by everyone who's trying to get their sould back.

I should get to studying. FML.
