Dawn at 37000 feet

The Crack of Dawn

The crack of dawn at 37000 feet. Daylight breaks out on the horizon as the airplane cruises along towards Mumbai.
PS: This is a cameraphone pic. Please excuse the quality.

One of the almost divine sights you can see when you're in a flight (of course... apart from the sight of a cute airhostess smiling at you) is to look out of the window on a night flight... to see the dawn breaking on the horizon.

As you fly across a pitch black sky, there's nothing but minor turbulences in mid-air or lit-up clusters of civilization way down below to break the monotony. With most of the people asleep and others with weak bladders making frequent trips to the loo through the darkness inside the aircraft, there's precious little to keep you interested inside. So you look out of the window. Suddenly... the horizon, that was indistinguishable in the dark, begins to make its presence felt. A thin orange line appears, separating the earth from the heavens. It starts to glow and the golden orange glow starts to spread with a inky blue border... gradually transforming the black night into a delighfully azure day.

...

And then... the airhostess comes along to smile and serve the breakfast...
