OK, now I am really running out of stuff to watch LOL! I finished HAVEN, which was really good. Sort of another version of Once Upon A Time with a Supernatural type twist. Instead of monsters being real though, the people/families of the town have various curses called "troubles" born of their various personalities, and manifesting every 27 years for a mysterious reason. The main characters - a local cop and a mysterious FBI agent - need to figure out who is manifesting and why and take measures to help them control it so it doesn't hurt others. What was similar to Once Upon A Time were the themes of family and love always wins over all. [spoiler to ending]I wouldn't have minded if the show had ended on a sacrificial note... it would have been bitter sweet, and the happy ending seemed to have been slapped on without much thought... but still, a happy ending is happy.
What I especially liked about the show was how it seemed to use both story and filming ideas I recognized from Supernatural. I loved when an impala was used for a hero scene, there was an amateur filming ep with ghost busters that looked suspiciously similar to Ghostfacers, a groundhog day ep, time travel etc., were pretty fun too.
I went on to watch the Shannarah Chronicles ‐ the main character is really not my type, but there were several side characters that I liked, and the story was good after the first couple of eps. I had started watching and stopped before thinking it wasn't really my type but when you run out, you start watching those again too :P I am looking forward to the next season if there is one.
I've just now finished watching the Magicians, this was really good too! It was one of those shows that I started watching and stopped previously after watching just a little bit of the first ep, but I'm glad I went back to it. It was about the students of a Magic University saving the world(s), like Harry Potter but much more adult in content, and much more complicated, with different worlds, timelines, the underworld etc. The whole premise of a storybook fantasy world being real, the themes of personal growth, character POV, family, friendship etc. were pretty awesome. A lot of pain, trauma too and I think every single one of the main characters was pretty messed up. Margo was my favorite female character, but Julia was pretty awesome too. I loved the Quentin/Elliot pairing but was also glad that Quentin and Alice got back together in the end. I really enjoyed the sometimes really dark comic humor and so many references to various movies and shows as well as RL. The whole show was really well thought out to the very end. Felicia Day was in it as a side character, as well as a few other actors I'd seen.
Anyway, on to RL stuff. We have been staying home except to go shopping for the last couple of weeks. We cancelled the picnic and extended our school holiday by a week, which means we plan to start next Tuesday(14th)... but I don't know yet. The national government has finally announced the state of emergency starting Wednesday and lasting to the end of April. The thing I didn't quite understand was that they timed it after most entrance ceremonies. Audrey's JH ceremony was on Tuesday and I couldn't believe that it wasn't cancelled. We thought about it until the very last minute, then decided not to attend. I took some pictures of Audrey in her uniform, but as you will see, she couldn't seem to make a natural smile LOL Not sure how and if they will be starting classes from Friday as planned.
Alex came back to Japan on March 31 and spent a whole day at the airport waiting for the test and then for the results. He ended up having to stay the night. His result was negative, but the test is not very reliable and he still had to be quarantined for 14 days. We were going to get him to come home and stay in his room for that time, but there was no transportation from the airport, and bringing him home might cause problems if something happened with our students, so we ended up renting a condo room for him for a month. He is having a very relaxing 14 days there on his own.
Audrey is getting bored, so she is helping me more with cooking and made some steamed custard for us yesterday. Today, I had a sudden craving and made some cinnamon buns. Audrey, Julian and I have also been playing some games, like Clue, Uno etc.
Some pictures from walks etc.
That's about it, I guess... Now to go find another show to binge...
