This is a great take on the episode. As usual, Sam being stitched up, up and around after bleeding out gallons of blood, drives home pale but otherwise none the worse for wear. That takes me right out of the episode. I was willing to go with Sam fighting off epic amounts of pain because he's a Winchester and has been going through this for almost thirty years (!).
Chuck, huh? Every time I start rethinking my decision to quit watching, they provide reassurance. *is depressed now*
TV chokings/stranglings almost always simplify the process to the point of absurdity, even on cop/medical/"super realistic" shows. It's part of the reason TV hangings never work, come to think of it. :)
Strangling is an excellent way also to leave open the option of keeping the victim alive too, because of the difficulty. I've read a few mysteries where the killer belatedly finds out that they had not actually killed their victim. So, good use of that this time around, I think :)
I think they mentioned that Sam got two bags of blood at the hospital, so there was some significant blood loss, but I guess that nothing super vital was hit. Also, TV medicine. :)
The boys sure took a beating in this one! I found the ep very intense and there really wasn't a dull moment in sight.
Wow... way to burn bridges - at least in the audience's mind anyway.
Can I ask you what you mean by that?
So... I can't really rate this episode either, because I've found out today that I really don't do well with pretty graphic choking scenes. (as in 'I just saw a gif of the Sam choking scene and I had a crying fit right away after hitting the back button super hard' not doing well.) It made me so nauseous and made me feel so off I couldn't really enjoy/ focuss on the rest of the ep. Will have to do a re-watch a little down the line where I skip that scene and see how I feel about the rest of the ep.
The fact that they will not be able to come back if they die. This is the second time it's been stressed and in quite a dire situation. Just the thought of them being thrown into 'the void' gives me a real sense of dread.
I'm so sorry the choking scenes affected you so much. *hugs* Was it especially because Sam really seemed to die? Or have you always had this kind of reaction in other eps as well? I can't believe anyone would want to make a gif of such a scene.
Ah, okay. Well, in my mind it isn't burning bridges because really? When it really comes down to it, I don't think they will stay dead. Billy is not the only sheriff in town, if you know what I mean.
I haven't had a reaction like this to show before, but there hasn't been a drawn out, graphic choking scene like this before. I have had reactions like this to choking scenes in other shows before. What it is exactly I don't know, but it just turns my stomach and makes me nope out so hard.
LOL yes, of course. But the writers are obviously trying to make the situation more desperate and scary now that everyone expects them to cheat death somehow. The only other entities I can think of that could still save Sam and Dean would be God, or the Darkness. Or, if Billy changes her mind for some reason. I still think that is possible. We'll see!
