I finally watched the Unaired Pilot of (you guessed it) Buffy

I love the first episode of Buffy. I remember watching it when it first aired in the UK, I didn’t like it much, but I was very young. Anyway, it was a good introduction to the programme and I like watching it back.

But when I saw the special original un-aired buffy pilot episode, it completely changed my view. I still love the first episode, but its makes me sad to see so many people missed out on this brilliant episode.

I know its shorter and doesn’t introduce the characters as well. I know it doesn’t have any mention of Angel, or Joyce, or the master, and the original Willow was frankly too terrible for words in comparison, but there was something about it. I liked that it was shorter and sweeter. It seemed to flow better. Xander was wicked in this episode, but that was probably because they introduced him more as buffy’s new friend than Willow. I thought Buffy and Xander were very well introduced, and I liked that Xander didn’t immediately fancy Buffy really. I also liked his conflict with Cordelia and Buffy’s scenes with Giles in that super cool massive library.
The one thing I didn’t like was Willow. She was the only thing I thought was crap in this episode. She was like I imagined Monica to be like in high school, only with less friends. She didn’t even seem to be Xander’s friend, and she just went off with that guy for no real reason, whereas in the actual one Buffy tells her to seize the moment, giving Willow an intention. I guess it would have been ok, as long as Willow wasn’t really a main character in the rest of the show, and would of left room for Xander and Buffy. Maybe they could of brought Alyson Hannigan in later with a different name, as Xander’s old friend who was on holiday or something, and mix in an interesting plot.

Overall I really liked the episode, but wouldn’t give up our Willow for anything. Congrats to Nicholas again for being super brilliant in this episode, especially in scenes with Sarah. I loved it.
