for some reason or another me and my sister had been watching the first series of Angel. A spin-off from our favourite TV programme starring our not so favourite characters, Angel and Cordelia. I didn't mind them, I just didn't like them that much. But the other main character, Doyle, was brilliant. A cute funny Irish guy who gets visions to help Angel and has a massive crush on Cordelia. I was really starting to get into Angel, and Cordelia was starting to really like Doyle back, when suddenly... HE DIED.
It was a cool episode. The Angel Trio were helping a bunch of half-demons who were on the run from an army of evil demons with a glowy cube which incinerates humanity. But they were trapped, someone needed to shut down the cube before it got to full power, but would be burned to a crisp in the process. Therefore, it was a suicide mission. At first Angel was gonna do it. I was like, what? Its only the first series, Angel can’t die yet. It was a beautiful, touching moment, but then Doyle punched him off the platform, turned round and snogged Cordelia. There was a ‘doctor who POTW’ moment of passing energy mid-kiss (I’m guessing that would be the vision powers) then he jumped up on the cube. My sister didn’t have a clue what was going on. I cried as I realised what was happening, my Doyle was going to die, to save the world. Or, the humanity in it anyway. My confused sister hit me telling me to stop crying and explain what was happening. God, there’s a reason 11-year-olds aren’t supposed to watch Buffy. Er, apart from the violence.
So, nine episodes in and my favourite character is dead. Chances of me watching that programme again any time soon? Not unless I’m VERY bored.
God, spin-offs suck.
