The volunteer I worked with today at OMSI vented a little bit of frustration with places like OMSI for being so expensive. I, of course, backed up OMSI by explaining the huge costs that are associated with museums and other non-profits. She said she knew all that but still felt like her son's family (5 members) was unfairly discriminated against because they didn't have the money to pay for their entire family to go to OMSI. First thing that came to my mind was, "Maybe they should've thought about money and expenses before having 3 kids..." Am I just that pessimistic? Or is there any sort of logic in my reaction? I felt bad just for thinking it, but not really that bad.
In a later conversation she mentioned that her son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter smoked. Now, I don't know how much they smoke, but maybe they could save up for a trip to OMSI by not smoking for a week +/-. I know about the whole addiction thing but, again, maybe they should've thought about that before they picked up the habit? It just does not show me that they value fun/educational trips to OMSI over an addictive habit like smoking. Grr, it's just a little annoying. =/
