It's funny to realize that I think I've checked out five books that are now moot to my research topic. Yeah, I changed my research topic. Now it's not about the history of celibacy because - omg, that would be a looooooooooong paper - now my topic is Celibacy in Ancient Greek Culture. Or at least that's my working title. Yes, Ancient Greece doesn't particularly strike one as particularly celibacy-oriented

Perhaps. Not in an academic writing style though; writing for school really irks me. It's also really difficult to differentiate between the histories of celibacy for religion and celibacy for every other reason. I guess the celibacy for religion reason has been around since about 1168 when some powerful Christian leader decided to be celibate and some of his followers, uh, followed. (This reminds me of Joseph Smith in the Mormon religion; he was a polygamist and so some of his followers became polygamists and tried to write it into the religious doctrines.) Anyway, I would probably focus on non-religious celibacy. Someday, maybe. =)
