And that's why children are supposed to drink alcohol . . . constantly

1.  Shot reveals cityscape of Veda-7 at dusk; it is a vast, sweeping image encompassing an immense urban network of lights that seem stars sprung up from the earth.

[No dialogue]

2.  A silhouette of ULTIMO blocks our view of the setting central sun as he faces the falling stars and stands at attention out of a soldier’s instinct.  He is atop the imperial palace, high above the spires of all other buildings.

3.  CASSANDRIS stands behind ULTIMO, visibly nervous and restless [i].

CASSANDRIS [ii]: Lord Ultimo, is something troubling you?

4. Ultimo looks back at the servant, but remains in stance

ULTIMO: I wouldn’t be a very good emperor if nothing were troubling me.

CASSANDRIS: If you are a good emperor, you won’t blend your own troubles with those of state.

5.  ULTIMO turns back to the city and CASSANDRIS walks closer to his master.

ULTIMO: Hmm.  A chamberlain tells me how to be an emperor.

CASSANDRIS: I’m not telling you how to be an emperor.  It is merely my prerogative to see your affairs are in order.  Your dreams still disturb you, no?

6. ULTIMO abandons his military stance and takes a seat near the building.

ULTIMO: No more than the face of a child.

CASSANDRIS: Your face says differently; what unsettles you?

7. ULTIMO breaks his somber appearance with a slight smile.

ULTIMO: One thing I learned from my master-dreams are paintings on the walls of edifices you have yet to build.

CASSANDRIS: What was he called?

ULTIMO: Another thing he taught me was that names are meaningless.  Look to each thing as it appears to you; know each thing by what it consists of, lest you be overtaken by pretense [iii]

8. CASSANDRIS stands between his master and the skyline as ULTIMO sits slumped in his seat.

CASSANDRIS: You have never spoken of him before-it sounds like you admired him greatly.

ULTIMO: I hated him.  Everything I learned from him was because he demonstrated the stupidity of the opposite.  I would have killed him if I had the chance.

9. ULTIMO looks sly yet angry.

ULTIMO: I still would if I could find him.

10. ULTIMO recovers his composure, stands up, and resumes observing the city.

ULTIMO: I would like to be left alone now, Cassandris.  See that security is put on night procedure.

CASSANDRIS: Yes lord.

11.  ULTIMO stands with his head bowed, facing outward at the city.
