I really liked the recent episode of The Simpsons, "Stealing First Base." I found it pretty clever and it had some very nice references, like the Itchy & Scratchy montage and the end where Nikki kisses Bart and they show a ton of other movie and TV kisses. The ones I especially liked were the Alien kiss, the WALL-E kiss, and the All in the Family

The episode was pretty good, but I got the impression that they didn't have enough material to fill up the entire half an hour slot. The long kiss montages and Itchy & Scratchy montage (the latter in particular) reminded me a little too much of those bits in Family Guy where Peter starts fighting with the giant chicken for several minutes. A little bit, "hey guys, isn't this clever and entertaining? You'll hardly notice that it's filler!"

Also I did think the kiss montage was clever filler, at that.

yeah i definitely had that thought when the itchy and scratchy bit happened. but someone told me a while back that the episodes are outsourced now so they can't make last minute changes since someone in india draws the frames.

which kind of made me sad. or really made me sad. but that probably means if they were in a slump then, this is what you get and no way to put more in.

and i like the simpsons fillers more than the family guy ones because they do it EVERY episode and it was cute the first couple of times but now it's just stupid and annoying.
