The urge to turn invisible hit Violet harder than any punch her father could dish out on a poor sucker of a villain’s face. She simply wanted to disappear right then and there. However, the sight of clothes floating in mid-air without a body attached to them would attracted some unwarranted attention, and she really didn’t feel like getting a referral because she consequently caused a ghost scare that would put the whole school in a tizzy.

So she settled with going back to her old habits and took off her headband. With nothing to secure the black strands, her hair fell forward and covered her face. Leaning against a nearby wall, she closed her eyes and took a few deep breaths.

She needed to calm down. Freaking out on the first day wasn’t going to prove to her parents that she was responsible and mature enough to be a full-time super-hero. As much as she didn’t like it, this was her only chance to make up for their disappointment in her.

Standing up straight, she slipped on her headband, took out the map from her pocket, and opened it. She wasn’t going to let Mom and Dad down, but first she needed to her darn room.
First person writing sample:
[The communicator is turns on to show...nothing.  It's pointed upwards in the exact angle that should show the newest student's bright and enthusiastic face. However the only thing seen is an empty room.]

[Yet judging by how the camera's angle is constantly being adjusted and the quiet muttering of] How do I even know if this stupid thing is working? [Someone has to be there. Perhaps the person just doesn't  want to be seen yet? Who knows] Does the blinking light mean...Oh great.

[The camera is quickly pointed upwards again, and this time there's a face...It's just not as bright and enthusiastic as expected. Instead her expression is the unique combination of nervousness, discomfort, and maybe even a hint of excitement that only teenage girls can pull off]

Uh, hi. I'm Violet Parr, and I just got here a few days ago. So far everything seems nice enough. Although the map here is kinda a pain to read. I mean, it's supposed to help you not get lost, but the one for here got me, um, lost. [Cue awkward-turtle laughter. Oh boy, just end it now Vi.] Anyways, I guess I'll just meet all of you later...so yeah.
