well, i am back in lex vegas, living it up. a lot has happened btwn last weds and now however, so i shall recount my tales of derring-do. i should probably mention before i get started that my grandma (mom's mom) has been having trouble with her arthritis and other stuff lately. so, last week, she decided that she wanted to live in a retirement home, a place with assisted living. this was a bit hectic for my whole family, especially my mom who was running around making all the arrangements and everything. we all tried to pitch in a bit tho. thursday morning/afternoon me & my older brother went over to my grandma's house and took down her christmas stuff and put it away. we helped get some stuff ready to move it to her new "apartment". it was also cool b/c 1 of my cousins was also over there helping get stuff ready with my mom, and my grandma was there of course. so around lunchtime me & my brother went out to get food (arby's....:|). it was fun for me, b/c we were talking about old music, and i mentioned the bread, barry manilow & jesus christ superstar records (among others) that we have in our basement, and my brother said they were my dad's and i called him silly and said they were obviously my mom's. then as i was channel surfing i went by some carole king and said "i'm gonna mention this to mom, and i bet she will start singing the refrain". and then when we got back, everything i said was right, b/c i know my mommy :)
o yea, and then later that nite, we moved my grandma's furniture. it was 1 of my uncles and his friend (i think he is a mover, he looked like it anyway), 1 aunt, 1 of my older male cousins, my mom, my eldest brother, and me. i'm sure it looked kinda funny, those first 3 guys are all huge, and then me, helping move mattresses and tables and the like.
friday, i believe i sat around most of the day. o yea, but in the afternoon, i took down the christmas stuff off my house. it was kinda annoying that my mom double wraps just about everything, so it took twice as long to take it off. o well, at least i helped do something around my house, i guess. nothing interesting happened friday nite, except that stepho bowled a 186! not a bad game, not a bad game at all.
saturday i worked at the basketball league, working the scoreboard & keeping the fouls. it was actually extremely boring, and it made me glad that i probably will not hafta work there another week this year. idk, i guess part of the reason i also used to like it was that i actually got to know some of the players (they gotta sit at the scorer's table to check in sometime), and i also knew the coaches pretty well. but a lot of the old coaches aren't coaching anymore, and i know that i will not see any of the players ever again, so i'm pretty disinterested. as i noted to my mom, "its probably bad that my favorite part of the job was getting paid". after coming home from the league i sat down and watched football b/c it is the playoffs, and i love football (in case u still didn't know). i watched seattle get their hearts broken once again in the playoffs, this time at the hands of st louis. then the late game i was partly watching the 1st half, but then i got an idea to not sit at home alone on my last saturday nite at home. so i called up steve mcqueen and i semi-invited myself over to his house to watch the game. on my way over there tho, he called my cell and had the idea to go to barleycorn's to watch the rest of the game. this sounded good to me, b/c i still wasn't sure where he lived and had just driven by his street and i knew how to get to barleycorn's from where i was, so that sounded like a great idea to me. while we were at barleycorns i successfully showed that i suck at virtual golf, ran into kids who are on the basketball team my dad coaches (they came from a tournament game; they lost by 4), hit on our waitress, and cheered for the chargers, which surprisingly everyone else there was also. but i bet no one else there had a san diego chargers sock hat/tobaggin! thats right, i'm cool. after watching my beloved bolts miss a game-winning field goal and the new yorkers promptly drive down the field and win it, i dejectedly made for home.
sunday i cleaned my dad's office (vacuumed), got paid for it, watched more football and visited my grandma in her new digs. and watched uk play pathetically and lose to kansas. and randy moss make an ass of himself (literally).
yesterday my mama drove me down here, we lunched at cracker barrel (yum, breakfast served all day!). then we moved my stuff in and i got all set up. after she left, i went out and bought my books for my classes and ran into a few ppl. when dinner time rolled around i walked up north and met mike and we ate. ray and payne also joined us, and there were others that were nearby, but too many to list. after eating we decided to waste some time by watching "empire strikes back," which btw, is probably my favorite star wars movie. i don't care, i like it best. then we met up with liz, phil, and madeline (who was visiting liz). we hung out for a bit. then we all minus mike went over to chris' apartment and hung out there for a while. his friends tried to stump me by asking me obscure super bowl questions, but i still managed to amaze them. then we came back and hung out more, saw a lot of other ppl, not really anything noteworthy happened.
and today nothing interesting has happened. yet. except that i am currently listening to "the promise" by when in rome. i am sure that everyone has heard this song and not realized it. it was played at the end of napoleon dynamite, when he and deb started playing tetherball. great ending to a great movie. i need to watch that again soon. and pick my hair out. and eat. too much to do. thus, i leave. hope everyone has a great week, and a great 1st week of the spring semester for most college folk.
