This is a simple desert, sort of like an apple italian ice, though the texture is a bit creamier and it's a bit sweeter than the traditional italian granita.
Ingredients needed:
5 - 6 granny smith apples
1/2 cup sugar (or a bit more to taste)
1 Cup Water
1 tst lemon zest (1 lemon and a shredder)
Peel and core apples and slice into thin pieces, then add to a large sauce pan with sugar and water and simmer for about 20 min (until apples are soft).
Once apples are soft, put in blender and make into a puree.
Pour pure into a cake pan and put in the freezer for about 45 min till it is almost frozen. Take out and blend again breaking up and large chunks and you will have what looks like a apple smoothie. Stir in lemon zest and for added zing add about 1 tst lemon juice (optional)
Place in tupperware or air tight container and place in freezer. Wait at least 6, but preferrably 12 hours before eating :)
For an added kick, you can also add spiced rum for an adult treat :)
