[The feed opens, after a moment of the usual static, upon a turtleneck-clad teen sitting cross-legged in the center of his dorm room bed. His eyes are downcast as he begins speaking, apparently focused instead on something cupped in his hands.]

I assumed that this place would be more understanding, but perhaps I was wrong. [His eyes dart to the ( Read more... )

[ terezi leans forward, communication device in one hand and cane held up in the other for him to see; she's frowning at her feed, having been drawn first by the smell of something limey and lemony and now by the accusation. ]

No, I don't look where I step!

[He frowns, confused and looking nearly offended.]
Then you admit to it? Why is that?

[And he pauses, eyes shifting back and forth between the cane and Terezi's face. Factors; there is a conclusion he should be deriving from them. Processing, processing...]
Oh. [He blinks, looking almost amazed and not at all ashamed by his apparent insensitivity.] You're blind. [Give the guy a gold star.]

[ terezi, in return, gives a manic grin once the information registers. she pulls her glasses down the bridge of her nose just slightly, enough for her solid-red eyes and sardonically-slanted eyebrows to peek through. ]

Hehehe, that's right! And you're new! I can smell it right past your bitter limey-ness.

So you can't "look". I suppose I should rephrase my question, then. [He smiles slightly, briefly deterred from his original rant by a sense of wonderment.]

Yes, I'm a first year... Is it obvious? [Beat.] Wait. Smell? But how? I'm speaking to you through the communicator. [Better yet, "limey-ness"?]

[ she completely ignores his second question, if only to screw with him for a little while longer. ]

It's soooo obvious! I've been here for two and a half years, I definitely would've noticed a weirdo who'd get upset over a little lemony - [ she pauses, leans forward, and gives her screen a good lick - four legs??? ] - wait! What is that thing? It can't be a spider!

[Ah. Lemon and lime-- yellow and green.]
He is Joltik. [At the mention of its name, the insect twitches and scurries from N's shoulder to hide in his ponytail.] He is very similar to a spider in many ways, though I suppose his species may be entirely separate. [Especially considering the part about sending off electric sparks from time to time. He's pretty sure spiders don't normally do that.]

Joltik is my friend. Is it weird to be concerned for a friend's well-being?

Good, I hate spiders! [ she's still smiling, though her expression and tone take on a slightly spiteful edge for just a moment. ]

Nope! You know what's weird? Letting your precious friend scurry around where larger creatures wouldn't even know to look for it, then blaming them for the potential harm they might've caused! Sounds like someone isn't as concerned for his friend as he claims to be!

Mm. As many people seem to. However, I do not understand such hatreds.

[He scowls.] Joltik is still wild-- He should be allowed to go where he pleases. I will not restrain him if he wishes to explore. [But he pauses, frowning uncertainly. He probably could escort Joltik wherever he went, but if he did that... He fears he would be more of an "owner" than a friend.] I only want others here to be more aware. That which they may see as a pest is a dear familiar to me.

I guess you don't have a HUGE BITCH you associate with them, then! I do! But let's not talk about her.

Then naturally you should've warned them beforehand! Like I said, it's not like the goody two-shoe losers around here were aware your fuzzy familiar was walking the halls too. A good friend would've taken precautionary measures against potential disaster! Honestly, it sounds to me like you're getting all uppity for something that can be blamed on your own negligence.
