After taking a few more shots with the Tamron lens during Nisei Week, I decided to trade it in. This lens performed better than the last lens, but it wasn't consistent enough for me. I don't think it was particularly strong at shooting action. Some of the shots were spectacular, but 2.8 it was still soft, but acceptible for putting up a small sized pic on the web. For a large size photo, it was not acceptible. Some shots on Saturday of the Random Ninjas show and the dance group were very good. For Sunday's parade and cosplay stuff afterwards, it was a complete bust.
So, out with the old and in with the new.
This is my "new" Tokina 28-70 AT-X Pro that I bought used for $250. This lens is no longer in production. The current version sells for $600. It's not a constant 2.8, but 2.6-2.8, but 2.6 isn't a selectable f-stop on my camera. So, it might as well be a constant 2.8. The differences so far between this lens and the Tamron are that this lens doesn't extend while zooming, wider 80mm barrel, metal body, much faster motor, and better background blur.
PMX is coming up soon and I just couldn't go into it with an inconsistent lens.
Weekend update will come later tonight. Lots of stuff to stay about Nisei Week.
