Today when I got home from below said activities, I was really stressed. I started crying. Maybe it was the fact that I had my first really hard goodbye. It's not that I don't miss other people, it's just the first really concious goodbye to a person who means a lot to me when I'm the one leaving. I'm the one going away; they aren't. So I was very very emotional. And I realized I had done absolutely no packing. None. At all. So I calmed down and worked on that, and now I have a couple boxes packed and other stuff sorted out, so I'm okay now. I've gathered my thoughts and sanity enough to be able to write about the awesome time I had at faire. I just had to write the serious stuff too, to get it out. Goodbyes suck.
Now that that is out of my system, the fun part! It all started last night after a wonderfully perfect Steak 'n' Shake expedition with my mom and brother. Man, I love that honey mustard. SNS executives: you can market that stuff and I will buy it. I headed over to the fun squad headquarters. Gini, Kim, and Karen where ready to ambush me upon my arrival, but I deflected their attacks with my Galahad shield and lightsabers. Little did I know...
We watched Fraggle Rock and the Muppet Movie; both are very exciting. I got very little sleep.
This morning, we woke up very early: the earliest of the summer. I mean, I've been up as late as we woke up. It's okay, though, it was SO worth it. We piled into the vehicle, where Gini was without a seatbelt. Thankfully, we found a clothespin to keep her safe. The ride was uneventful; apparently I slept while Kim sang "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds", because everyone else was raving about it. Alas, that's the one detraction of my faire experience.
We got there and it was raining, and we almost bailed. Luckily Kim was optomistic, countering my cynical pessimism. She decided that it wouldn't rain, and it didn't. The opening startled me, as people were in costumes just like us (we masqueraded as a scurvy bunch of pirates and their faithful servant ninja from the outer reaches of Mongolia (me!)) and spoke with accents. Yeah, it was a nerdfest. Which is a good thing.
We went around to shops and stuff, and saw a jousting show, preceeded by a hijacked wedding in which pirates used 20th century lingo. With piratey English accents. Lunch was afterward to be had (actually, no, beforehand to be had; I ate Gini's leg during the pirate fight show). The guns were scary. But Kim and Karen got us front row seats for the tournament. Many high-profile guests were there, like me, the Queen, and most importantly the Mayor of Frankenmuth. General consensus was that he was the real mayor and not a faire employee.
Denmark is aweome. Go Ulric! We started chanting. I am now Danish.
The English guy won. Scurvy knave. Ulric was better: 66 wins, undefeated. All hail the land of Legos and its hero!
The jousting even looked real. That was exciting for me.
We saw Ded Bob (his name is comprised of two palindromes!). He's a skeleton (obviously) who performs with his dummy Smudge. Smudge didn't say a word, strangely. Bonk! Fifi was funny and Ned was kind of stupid. I got my picture taken with Ded Bob; that should be online in a couple of days. One of the best jokes was Ded Bob's Dubya impression: he took his head off and put it next to his butt. Great material there. I'm voting for him, too.
Bonk!
We saw children being used as horses. That was frightening. They were all but saddled.
Oh, yeah, and a slight detail: I bought a sword. Wait. I BOUGHT A SWORD! How freaking awesome is that?! A real steel sword. Fun with the camera was had afterwards...there are so many fun sword poses. You'll just have to wait for that, however.
Faire is the coolest thing ever. I got a sword and was dressed as a ninja all day, almost appearing normal. And I learned about glass and silicon dioxide. How better to spend a day?
I know not, my friends.
And tomorrow I'm going to Grand Valley to visit Abby, Brian, and Brittany. Then I'm off to Western to see Mike (!!!!). Then I'm hopefully going to EK's band practice to say bye to our Kentwood folk because our gig was canceled. I'm still kind of mad about that; my last gig was canceled. Alas. But what can you do? I get to see Mike! I wish I wasn't so tired so I could emote properly on this.
