My faith in the trans community is dwindling more and more every single day. More late-transitioning MTFs exercising socialized male privilege and protecting their own at the expense of the rest of the trans community.
aki_no_kaze is impatient with me and is frustrated at my irritation with the trans community, but she has had an atypically positive experience. She will probably accuse me of transphobia, but the truth is that she is in a fairly privileged position herself (not much below the white, late-transitioning pro-surgery MTFs). She does a great job educating the CTS'ers and trying to be patient, nonetheless.
I am certainly not saying that as individuals, transpeople can't be great. As a group, they're still dealing with coming into their own politically, which means that there are still myriad factions trying to take control of ow the trans community will present itself to the rest of the world as palatably as possible. Never mind that this process has been sputtering for several decades.
I've met some wonderful transpeople of all gender identities and at all different stages of transition and non-transition. I just with they'd all work on shedding the privilege associated with their birth sexes, because (in the case of monopolizing late-transitioning MTFs who sometimes are extremely resistant to welcoming other gender identities who might threaten their hard-earned acceptance) it's really not attractive, and it hurts the struggles of those not so fortunate.
