Shige looked up at Koyama.
“d- Don’t think I mean it THAT way” Koyama said immediately.
Shige was somewhat relieved.
“I- I meant that- we’ll if you’d enjoy yourself better- I’m not trying to steal you away or anything like that- I’m just a bit considerate- well maybe a little sorry for you- No- that guy seems like a great guy-or else why would a great guy like you be with him?- although-”
“Waiter- san it’s okay… I know what you mean,” Shige said.
“My name is Koyama-but- Eh? - really?- I’m sorry for intruding in your life!” Koyama bowed down profusely.
Shige laughed, “It’s okay waiter- san.”
“My name is Koyama!” Shige laughed once more.
“I’d like it if you stayed with me. It’s just not fun when I’m alone,” Shige finally said thinking that this Koyama guy wasn’t as bad as he thought. He was actually kind of funny.
“Sorry, what was your name, customer-san?”
“Oh my name is Shige.”

They talked many times. Shige was still in love with Ryo, but instead of dreading Ryo’s departure he was getting quite used to it. Actually, he enjoyed his time with Koyama. He didn’t know how it happened or when it happened exactly, but he started looking forward to being with Koyama.
Ryo was unaware of it.
He carried on the same way he used to: arrive late most of the time, and leave early even more than that.

*He’ll come soon I just know it* Shige looked back down at his watch. It was really late. Shige sighed. Today Koyama was busy serving other people. Occasionally, he would check up on Shige and ask him if he was alright. *I’m sure he’ll come in any moment now.*
Minutes of waiting turned into hours. Every ten minutes Shige tried calling Ryo, but it was no use.
“Sorry,” Koyama said coming into the room, “there were a lot of guests today, but now I’m here.”
Shige looked down disappointed. He was hoping Ryo was the one saying this. He hoped Ryo was the one sitting in front of him.
“He never showed up did he?”
Shige stayed silent. Sure Ryo had been late many times and he left early many times too, but he always arrived with a “sorry, I’ll make it up to you” face.
“You know it’s almost time for the shop to close…” Koyama said.
Shige stayed silent. *He’s going to come in any time now.*
“Have you tried calling him?”
“…”
Koyama laughed a little. “Has he even tried calling you?”
Shige looked at Koyama. It was obvious that what Koyama just said was something really painful to Shige.
“No” Shige whispered out with a shaky voice. Tears began to swell in his eyes. He felt something painful form in his throat as he thought about Ryo. “He didn’t even call me.”
Koyama rushed over to Shige’s side with a napkin. “Come on let’s go, I’ll take you to your house.”
Shige began to cry. Koyama took him in his arms.

“I didn’t think this would ever happen. I mean he’s -”
“Shh… calm down Shige.”
“No. He’s always late. He always leaves me. You’ve seen him right? He just casually pick up his phone like it’s nothing. Then he says ‘Oh I’m sorry Goodbye.’ I mean It’s not fair!” Shige threw the vase in his coffee table on the floor.
Koyama rushed over to pick up the pieces.
“Stop it,” Shige said through his tears.
Koyama looked up at him, “Why? If I don’t clean this up who will? Besides I’m your friend; I only want what is best for Shige.”
Shige laughed sarcastically, “If only Ryo was like that.”
Everything became silent. Koyama stopped picking up the shattered pieces. Everything was frozen for ten long seconds. Shige realized what he had just said. He realized how much sense it made to say something like that. He realized that someone like Ryo didn’t really care about him as much as someone like Koyama.
Shige walked over to Koyama. Shige leaned in. Their lips met.
Koyama was completely still all the time. He didn’t want to take advantage of Shige’s current feelings. He knew Shige was only doing this because of what Ryo had done to him. He knew this kiss meant nothing. He knew Shige would regret it the moment their lips parted, but he wouldn’t regret it.
Shige pulled away. He realized what he had done.
Koyama continued to clean the mess. “Goodnight Shige,” he said.
Shige realized what he had done.
