Surprise!

I went to Chicago to surprise my dad for his 60th birthday. Actually rode the Megabus at 1:20 Saturday morning and arrived in Chicago at 6! Crazy! Needless to say, I got no sleep. My sister picked me up near Union Station and we went for breakfast. Mmm... french toast. Went and crashed at her place for a bit before meeting our parents at their hotel. Dad did a double take when he saw me. Hehe! We went on a gangster tour where some guy said, "Heya, pal!" to my brother which cracked me up for some reason. Did a little shopping.

We all went out to this wonderful Italian restaurant on Dearborn that night. It was excellent. My brother, sister, and sister-in-law split the bill. The bottles of wine were $70 apiece. Dude.

The next day we lounged a bit, went out for lunch with Mom and Dad and then saw Changeling. Very good. Later went with Dave and Mel to an awesome Mexican restaurant.

I got out of bed this morning at 6am so I could get to the bus at 7:45am. So, very little sleep. Got into Cincy at 2:30, someone picked me up and now I'm at work. I'm so ready for this night to be over so I can go home, hang with my cats, and sleep.

And NaNo? I did nothing on Saturday. Nuh. Thing. Sunday I did a little. Worked quite a bit on the bus on the way back, but I had two seats to myself. Going to Cincy, everyone was asleep, and I had no room for my computer anyway. By midnight tonight, I'll be about 7,000 down from where I want to be. I will catch up. I will!!!!!

In sad news... HP died on Friday morning. I'm really sad about this. She hasn't really been in my life in the past 8 years, and I was closer to Joe being that he was my boss and college classmate, but knowing that she is gone from this world feels awful. She was always kind to everyone. She treated everyone like she would want to be treated. She used her breast cancer battle to reach out to other people, rather than take a "Woe is me" approach to life. When I worked with her, I always wished I could be more like her. The world is a better place because of her and what she has left behind. There's my own little HP tribute.
