Olympics
I guess humans just can't live without rituals. Probably its part of their social structure. Olympics is full of rituals. I find it funny that they bring this huge flag into the stadium and everybody seems to be rejoicing at the abstract thing called the flag.
Colossal waste of energy in performing these rituals is another way of describing Olympics.
Has anybody stopped to think where sports originated from? Its a mere mate-selection mechanism for this species. Given our tool building speciality, we do it in a variety of ways - archery, fencing and abstract 'concept' games such as cricket/soccer/bowling/etc.,.
The only difference is that termites don't know they built a colossal colony for themselves. We telecast how emergent our mate-selection method can get... on Live Television.
... and people take pride in another abstract thing called their 'Country' and stuff.
